Title: Helios Vanes? Demo Video included
Post by: returnofsid on June 28, 2014, 10:41:29 AM
So I just came across this video from the 2014 ATA show, demonstrating the Helios Vanes by Nocturnal.  I'd really like to hear what everyone else thinks about them...

It comes down to cost and effect. To you guy's who are concerned about FOC I think this could create a problem, at 54g via UNLIGHTED nock and vane that's some serious weight on the tail.  **Keep in mind that's with the UNLIGHTED nock - I believe the LIGHTED nocks/vanes come in at 72g..** That's an absolute no from this guy.
Compaired to standard blazer vanes and standard nock weight which is about 29g. Could easily be compensated I guess but then that creates other issues.
Then cost - $30 for a 6 pack when I can spend $8-12 for a 36 pack of blazer's and have almost the same flight. :dunno:
To each they're own I guess. I shoot the Nockturnal lighted nocks myself but that's even pushing it for me.

Back end weight would be a large concern for me, as well.

I hadn't even looked up pricing yet but yeah, that's also got to be a consideration.

I'd like to see the test done with a 'helical' blazer fletched shaft instead of a straight fletched shaft. It would definitely spin a lot faster.
