I was up there Monday through Thursday. No salmon for us, and I never saw a net. We spent most of our time fishing for lings and rockfish and caught some nice fish. We only fished mornings and spent the rest of the day with the family.
Word is that the salmon are still offshore. The commercial trollers were going to "compass rose" and/or "sharkfin" and doing really well. Similar to Westport - if you've got a boat that you can run offshore with, the fish are there. But I'm not doing that in my 15' whaler. We ventured outside to Skagway, but that's as far as we got (and no salmon there either).

Fishing is lights out offshore. Like was mentioned, Compass Rose and Sharkfin. Be prepared to fish 400'+ on the downriggers.

for inshore fishing try sekiu. we went out for the opener and did good even though our biggest hatchery was 17 pounds there were tons of 5-6 pounders. with a few big natives. :twocents:

Where did you fish? I'll be there in a couple weeks, the reports I have heard have been great. I usually fish offshore, then head to swiftsure to fill limits if needed. Really hoping the big ones are in on the beach by the end if the month.

We fished Sekiu and Neah over the weekend and saw very few salmon caught at either place. We only had 2 hookups in 3 days and lost both. Sounded like the fish were still out deep from Neah. Talked to 3 guys that fished Swifshurr and got limits.

The end of July is best. We go every year.
