Post by: buglebuster on July 03, 2014, 09:05:12 PM
What does everyone use for bait in the sagebrush country for mule deer? I know a travel route, wondering if I should even use any?

The normal salt and then pears and apples! During the late season when it gets cold I put out some nice 2nd cutting for them.

I have had great luck with just salt, make sure you get the kind with selenium (something the land lacks around here). I think it works best if you dump water on and around the salt block, the sites were I have poured water seem to be hit harder than sites I just placed the salt. Apples are going to bring in lots of unwanted animals like birds, coyotes, and rodents (not a big deal if you are using a large sd card).

Trace mineral salt with selenium from your local feed store. I wouldn't bother with fruit. You'll get all sorts of animals as mentioned using up your batteries and your photo storage gb's.

I use a Deer Acres Block. I'm sure that's the name and deer love it, no matter what species.

By far out in the sage here in Eastern WA, I have had ten times the results and pictures using the small "Deer Cocaine" blocks from Bi-Mart. 7.00 bucks or so a block and they last a long time and easy to pack.

thats funny I've tried those deer cocaine blocks and had no luck. I have one I poured salt on and they ate the salt off and left the block

Ive seen some pretty impressive results from cameras in that country using nothing but trace mineral salt.
