The girlfriend and I want to do some ocean fishing. We live on the eastside and have no idea what the seasons are or what to catch when. Not sure where to go or what guides to use either. Not interested in salmon or steelhead because those get caught around my house. Something good to eat is always nice. I've heard red snapper are good to eat. Any advice helps!

If you come to Westport you can't beat the Slammer for bottom fishing for Bass and Ling Cod great boat and skipper.

I don't know what you're thinking for a budget but I'd recommend a tuna trip. They are fairly costly... but you'll end up with a pile of meat thats well worth it IMO. For that I would recomend All rivers and saltwater charters. They are out of westport and the tuna are now here.

For an actual "guide", you really can't beat Mark Coleman's outfit. Unlike large, traditional charter boats, these are fishing machines.

Tuna looks interesting. What's the avg someone catches on a day fishing for tuna?
-
With All Rivers Charter you will probably be splitting 40 tuna that range from 20 to 30lbs between six people.

Do either of you get seasick? I went on a tuna trip and some of the people were from E. Wa and had never been on the ocean. A couple of them spent 14 hours puking their guts out. I'd be sure I wasn't going to do that before I committed to a long, expensive trip.

Just get your Dr. to get you patches. Wear them as prescribed. Also take dramamine. One the day before, then one the morning of.
Bring some Ginger ale too. great for upset tummies.
Dont party like rockstars the night before. you'll be fine! :IBCOOL:

:yeah:
Dramamine less drowsy the night before (7-8pm) then first thing when you get up (probably 3-4am) as mentioned lay off the sauce the night before ginger and some guys like saltine crackers as well.
If you are thinking Neah Bay Jambo's Sport Fishing is top notch. I have fished with him for nearly 10 years and have amazing trips every year. Offshore King fishing at it's best!

never been on the ocean but ive never gotten sick easily!

One thing to consider is with the tuna trips (someone correct me if I'm wrong) they are usually 2 day trips so your sleeping on the boat for a night which might be rough having never been on the big water. But you do come away with more fish than you know what to do with.
Bottom fishing or salmon and tuna look here

Ive been on a few different boats and the Slammer several times over the last 13 years and Its just a blast. He puts you right on the fish and the derby winners generally step off his boat. Rhett is a great guy and skipper. Nice clean boat good equipment and his deckhands are on top of their **** Good stuff!
Its definitely a show up catch fish kind of deal they bait you up unhook your fish and fix the tangles in your line. Just stand there and have a blast!!! and TIP your deckhand!!
