Trying to decide, PA or Westport for a two day trip. I like two kings a day at PA over one a day at Westport. Anyone hit PA in the last few days to give an idea of how the bite has been.?

I've been fishing. PA and Freshwater Bay. Slow, slow slow. Fished this morning off PA. Maybe 15 rigs out on the hook. Never saw or heard of any fish. It's been so slow the fish checker didn't even show up. I was at Freshwater Bay on Sunday and there were a few fish caught, but then yesterday a friend was out there and never saw a fish caught. Heard they gettin some at Sekiu so hopefully things will pick up here later this week.

Lazy hit it on the head, opener was good but once those fish got caught out of the usual spots that had been staged it got tough. Sekiu is fishing better but it is a high percentage of blackmouth and a little tough on the mature fish. It could change quick though if and when fish decide to come in from the ocean.

I love fishing PA when the fish are in. If you know the right spots it is game on with some nice 20+ pounders.

Except for the opening day when they checked I believe 88 fish for 171 anglers it was pretty slow compared to the opening week the last three years. I have been fishing this area for over 30 years and actually the last three years have been kind of odd. It seemed more normal to years past when it never usually was good until about the middle of july to the middle of august. I fished thursday thru saturday last week and felt lucky to put 4 fish in the boat between 12 and 17 pounds. Also released two wilds. Only saw four to six fish caught each day and they were usually caught early. Not much bait in the winter hole but a ton at freshwater and still few fish. Locals were not out as the word gets around up there and they dont waste their time. Tides were bad as there was no water moving and they will be better this coming weekend. Going to give it a go friday thru sunday this week but it is still early in my opinion and experience in the area......Les

Headed there this weekend. It has been slow, Hope it picks up. But at least it wont be a 100 degrees outside like it will be in Moses lake.

A guy I know is over there now. He did pretty good last weekend.

Fishing has picked up. The weather sucked. Blew both days, Only fished an hr on Sunday and that was probably to long. Most boats I saw at the dock had 2 to 4 keepers including us on Saturday. Don't know if they released any. We did not, all fin clipped (That was a first) 10 to 22lbs most in the lower rang.

Good news! I hope they are making their way in for the Puget Sound opener!

Trying to decide if were going up to PA on Sunday. Im all for standin in a boat all day on the water but with bait and fuel is it worth the drive? :dunno:
Sounds like its getting better though ya?!

Well we ended up going to PA on sunday. Got there a little late (0800) and as we pulled up there was a couple boats coming out! I thought well hell they already got their limit this might not be so bad after all!! Come to find out they pulled out cause there was already 6' swells and growing to 10' LOL.
So off we went motors out around Ediz Hook and down a little bit ( follow all the other boats right!?) Got the lines in the water. We trolled back in forth moving anywhere from 120-250' of water with nothing. changed up the rigs a little still nothing. We headed down a little further down the coast and pushed out a little big and started moochin still nothing. we trolled all the way back in and got to the dock around 1430 and the fish checker said only 9 fish were caught and they were out at freshwater bay (the next hole down from us :bash:) We were gonna head out there but the regs said it was closed I guess everyone was trolling the closure line.
Still SLOOOOOW so I think were gonna wait for them to show up in the hood canal and hit em there.

The mouth of the Elwha is not what the locals consider fresh water bay. Its from pineapple rock west to cresent bay.
