What do you guys who do extended backcountry hunts wear for socks and boots? Trying to figure out the best combo for early archery. Best socks for foot longevity?
-
Im going to use some lorpen socks this year highly reviewed. I always have some sort of merino or blended socks on with a thin liner
-
So you do a double layer? Like a next to skin stretchy thing with wool over the top?
-
I use Lorpen merino socks and use Kenetrek boots. Feet and body couldn't be happier. Single socks always for me. Personally, I hate double layers on my feet.

Look up the smartwool sox. Lots of hikers use em. Worked good for me. I use a real this liner sox with it.

I wear my normal cotton socks, then burn them so I dont have to pack them out. My load is usually lighter going in than coming out. ;)

I'm pretty similar... I just use old wool socks I've had forever. Good socks are great but I don't wear boots to work so I'd rather not invest a lot in to something I only use for a few days to a week at a time.
I am still wearing the same socks I received from the army when I went to basic training in January 2007. They've lasted through a combat deployment to Iraq and several hunting trips. Until they show holes, I don't see why I would get rid of them.

Sinlge socks for me. I can't do the 2 sock thing. I have some polypro liners but they don't work for me.
I use Thorlo trekking socks and I also have a pair of Smartwool's too.

I've been wanting to try some Darn Tough's one of these days. I'm getting some miles out of the Thorlo's though. Once they're shot, I'll try some others.

Merino socks and extra pair in pack . Foot powder. Mole skin just in case
-
Two pairs of Smartwool socks, any season. You want to keep them dry so trade back and forth every other day to allow them to dry out.
Mole skin and duct tape for the blisters.
-
I pack a fresh pair for every day, usually medium cush smartwool. Typically powder up at the truck for the trip in too. Between work/hiking/hunting/ etc. my feet take a beating so I try and take care of them.
-
I use the medium thickness smart wool socks most of thes season, thick in the winter. Those, with good quality boots, keep meh feet happy, which helps me hunt longer. I normally carry an extra pair in my pack in cases they get wet. I hat having wet feet.

Used to carry extra set of wool socks and change midday cuz of the sweat. started
rubbing hunters antiperspirant on my feet in the morning and now can go all day in 400 gram kennetreks and socks are dry at the end of the day still.
