Title: My New Duck Boat(Revised Paint)
Post by: sakoshooter on July 19, 2014, 09:54:51 PM
14'-6" Starcraft w/64" beam and 35hp Evinrude pump. Just finished painting it.

Added some light brown cattail looking patterns. Darkened it some plus it looks more like the vegetation will come mid waterfowl season.
I did it only because you guys made me, LOL.

Can't wait to have that sand and mud covered dog of mine roll all over in that pretty thing, dump losers picked up garbage and shells, fill it with merganasaurus rex, eat samiches when the birds are dumpin in, holler to back up when that pump is clogged with spartina, sit right in the line of site when running under moonlight (on my150lb blind bag of course), and just enjoy the ride with nice, warm, gloved hands tucked under the dog on those January bb trips. Seriously though, so happy for you and excited to get the opportunity to be tossing out gas money for once. I'm working heavy hours down south, so I cant just pop in. Fill me in on more of those details on the bb season. Can't find any info.

Boat will work great for waterfowl.  Is it me or is that green bright?  If it was me, I would go to Wal Mart and get some of the camo flat dull dead grass or marsh grass and tone that green down.  You want the boat to blend in.

I was looking for a few paint patterns I did on past boats, but I have to do some more digging.  I did have one on a blind a built, but than I camoed it, so you can't see it very well.

Quack Quack!

Duck hunting right around the corner but will the weather push some traveling birds down early this year?  Sure hope so.

SakoShooter,

Was thinking of getting a similar V-Bottom boat for fishing, crabbing, shrimping and duck hunting out of. Maybe a 12-14 footer with like a 20-25 hp motor. They seem to be reasonably priced used. Don't have much experience with these types of boats and was wondering how they will handle standing and shooting? :bdid:?

Would most likely be in the salt most of the time since I'm on the Wet side.

Something like this: http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/boa/4586871984.html (http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/boa/4586871984.html)

Nice job. I just bought a 12' starcraft with a six horse evenrude and painted the boat n trailer myself.

Well I've been puttering around with all the little things about the boat/motor/trailer and put it in Kapowsin this afternoon to work out a few kinks. New trailer tires/wheels plus the spare. Finally got the idle adjusted so it won't stall on me every time I throttle down. Bilge pump works great. Lights and depth finder also work great. Went thru every light on the trailer and boat and put vaseline on every connector and lamp socket. New battery for accessories. Paddles painted in in holders on one side. Gonna talk my wife into making me a gun scabbard for the other side. Took both dogs and they're ready to go. Did some good water retrieves today. I think I'm ready for the season.

I'd definitely dull that pattern up like was already stated. It might work but you can make it better.

I think the paint will dull down a bit after usage and getting into the mud areas.  Must have taken a bit of time nice job.  The camo blind pictures look awesome thanks for sharing.  On boats I use a 18'6" Lowe Roughneck.  Anything smaller makes me nervous and I wish mine was bigger.  When duck hunting out of it don't forget the weight of your big buddy or buddies, shells, dog, decoys and gear.  When it comes to boating you can't be safe enough and I only stay on the edges and not out in the big water.

Took the dogs out for a little shake down cruise around Nisqually today. Threw a few dummies and refreshed my memory of the travel routes at low tide. Also met a couple of our country's defenders doing the same. We spent a few minutes BS'n up McAllister Cr. Nice to swap a few stories.
