Title: Westport Jetty
Post by: Old Man Yager on July 20, 2014, 08:46:37 AM
Anybody fish off the Westport Jetty? If so, any tips you want to give? What type of pole/reel, bait, and how did you rig up your leader, and does anybody know if there is a better spot in there to fish from? I don't want all your secrets, just enough to make sure I don't waste a trip down there. Thinking of trying it, but I don't want to go in blind and not have the right gear for it. Appreciate any help. Thanks

:)Hello, I use a long spinning rod, 9 ' min. big spinning reel with 17lb test mono. You want to be able to cast an ounce at least.and cast a long ways.
Sometimes I like the weight on the bottom, the hook a little higher and put the weight on like 8-10 lb. leader so if you get hung you can break off the weight and save your hook. Sand shrimp, piling worms, fish meat.
The footing is tricky be careful!!
