Just ordered some Hornady .429 300 Grain XTP bullets and green MMP sabots for my .50 Bighorn. I'm wondering what you all are using as an aligner/starter for that bullet. I've got a CVA kit with all sorts of different options, but I'm not crazy about any of them.

I'm shooting the same bullets with Harvester Crush Rib sabots. I've been using just a plain jane standard bullet starter that came with my Knight when I bought it and that seems to work just fine.

Cool. Thanks.

I use a Spinjag bullet starter. Excellent for cleaning your smoke pole.

I use my thumb to start and finish with the ramrod. No starter tip.

Thompson center makes a small jag for bullet starters or ramrods, I think it is a 10-32 thread. It works on bullets like the Harvester scorpion PT Gold, Nosler 240 grain JFP, Hornady 300 grain XTP, and many more, it is very versatile. The CVA starter you are talking about would pull off the tip of the scorpion bullet as I tried to remove the starter from the barrel. I called harvester and T/C is what they recommended. Just buy 2 and screw them into your bullet starter, Check around I think you can find them for less. I think this is the right one: http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/thompson-center-9067-caliber-universal-loading-cleaning-brass-p-30755.html (http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/thompson-center-9067-caliber-universal-loading-cleaning-brass-p-30755.html) of course if you want one for your ramrod you would have to buy 3. I tried the hornady 300 grain XTP with both the MMP sabots and didn't get good patterns, I tried harvester green crush rib, using 100 grain of BH 209 and got 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards. I am going to play around with the powder charge and see if I can get better than 1 1/2 inch.
