Hopefully, the fires south of the Methow don't close the High Hunt like they did in 2006 and 2012. At the present time the Chiwaukum fire has closed all of the north side of Icicle Ridge and some of the south side. The Entiat is completely shut down because of the Duncan Hill and Kelly Mountain fires.
The Mills Canyon fire is out and burned some prime winter range for the mule deer and big horn sheep. Only a tenth of what the Methow lost; lets hope for another warm and mild winter.
The Entiat was closed in 2006 because of a Wilderness fire called Tinpan Mtn. and was reopened the day before the General Season in October. In 2012 the area was closed because of the Pugh Ridge and North Tommy fires.
The crews are working the fires; we wish them the best.

Did the whole Alta unit burn?

Alta GMU 242; only the lower part burned from Carlton down valley. At this time there is some of the higher country (toward Manson) that has not burned but since it is in the Sawtooth Wilderness it could very well may burn. Not much effort will be directed toward the Wilderness fires.
Could be some hungry deer this winter. The good news is that a wet and warm autumn can cause the grasses to sprout and that really helps the deer.

Where does someone find information on these closures?
