Anybody ever putt the hurtin on grouse up on the peninsula? Like above quilcene ( I know I didnt spell that right) just moved to the area further away from my honey hole around morton.

I have, but that was when a buddy was still around and he didn't mind burning all the fuel for them. We would start at Dosewallips Road and come out at Lost Mountain Road in Sequim. Somehow we'd rack up almost two hundred miles over a full day hitting all those roads. Something we noticed was that the grouse there would like to be in groups of 4-6 and a bit of space in between them--might go twenty miles before seeing another group.

Right on. Ive seen blues in groups of 4 or 5. Pretty fun tryin to whack your limit in one go :mgun2:

Above lords lake use to be a good place. That's just out of quilcene

Ive been scouting up there a few times. Might go look for a bear somewhere in that area. Seems like alot of greeny trails up there. Must have counted 15 subarus one Saturday. Seen a decent amount of bear sign though

Last year I was up in the area and it was pretty tough. Me and couple guys I work with were up there all day and we didn't see anything. We must drove about 200 miles or so. Finally at the end of the day on a hunch we decided to go near lords lake on this dirt road road I think is what is was called and low and behold not even a mile on the road we saw 2 ,but they flew away before we jumped outta the truck. Hunt for rabbit while your up there, :tup: we did see a few of them which kept us going all day thinking if we see rabbit then there has to be grouse.

I dont shoot them, but this year hear in Quil-ville there seems to be a bunch.

That is a sure guarantee that you won't find a lot of birds in that area again. That is a young family group. Shoot 4 out of the group and what is left? I have my theories, but most will do just what you suggest...get a limit out of the family group and not care.

You're right about Morton....
Up above Quilecene can be tough.
Lots of pressure on the roads.
It can be decent if you hike off the roads where no one else hunts.
If you are in much better shape than me, I would suggest getting dirty and going down into a gulley near water, way off the roads. You will deffinately see some birds.
I still go every year... but it's only because I love the area, but honestly, the past 3-4 years have been crap up there. Back in high school, 15 years ago, it was a garunteed limit up above quilecene, but lately, I'm lucky to see a single bird in 3 trips up the mountain. Of course... I would see more if I got of my truck. lol.
Not much in the way of populations up there due to hunting preasure.
Plus... apparently... every guy you take up there gives away the good spots :tup: lol

C'mon now Luke I didn't give away anything. Half the time when I was up there with you I couldn't even tell you were I was. Above Quilcene is all I know on a dirt road :dunno:. I am ready for this year though bro. I am even thinking of going modern which is another whole story in itself. Hit me up bro. :tung:

I grew up there and know all the spots, but better keep quiet as my brother and brother in law live there and they are their spots too. Just get out and do some scouting, you'll find some decent spots. But hunting pressure has done a number on the main spots. Chum up with the local hunters, they'll tell ya.
