Man that Sky is INTENSE!!!!
What is the drill rig for?
-
BP built it to be a massive powerhouse in the world of directional drilling. The thing is supposed to cover like 50 square miles from where it sits. As I am told, there was some concern that the pressure relief system may not take the pressures we see here, so they scrubbed the mission. The thing has a generator that covers 1/8th of an acre.....imagine the fuel to run that bad girl. The rig has been sold to the Russians from what I hear. It's being torn down and shipped over right now.
Amazing waste of money, but at the same time....to sit on billions of dollars because of a potential accident that may never be encountered is impressive in its own right.

Impressive. Where is it sitting now?
-
So...is "Liberty " the name of the rig?
-
Yes, liberty is the name of the rig. It sits on endicott island in Alaska. It's currently being cut apart and loaded on barges for a trip to the land of no laws. It'll take a few years to get it down.
