Post by: 270Shooter on December 06, 2008, 03:18:10 PM
I was curious how everyone did in this unit this year. I personally saw lots of game for haveing no weather. And heard lots of shots, I only heard of 3 big bulls taken, but i'm sure theres more. Would like to know how your season was cow, spike, big bull whatever. 8)

Lots and lots of cows but no horn what so ever. Couldnt figure it out. Hunted several different spots and all the same. I could find cows anytime of the day but NO BULLS. Cant blame it all of indians, cougars, archery, muzzle loaders...Im sure that they all got some but not all of the bulls. Oh well I did tag out with my Christmas Tree....   :IBCOOL:

The late Archery season was hard and very view Elk. they get the pleasure of using this unit last.
The weather didnt group the herds like normal, making it hard to find any Elk. there were some but not a normal year.

Yep only hunted 3 days but saw about 50 elk only 3 bulls. Missed one spike, and helped a guy put his spike in his truck, Its was a really old regressed bull, he had no teeth. And I saw one big bull on the last saturday while i was walking through the thick stuff. Also noticing that the deer numbers seem to be increasing. Saw about 30 deer and 3 legal bucks :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:. Can't wait for next year. 8)

Just took my son there for his first elk archery hunt during late season. I went there last year and saw 70 elk in two days. We saw one cow on Friday and that was it :( last year there was a foot of snow at this time...it must have been in the 50's yesterday so not much was moving where we were.

Oh well, he had fun and will by hunting with me in the Lewis River unit next year for his first early season hunt...can't wait!!!

My parents live in the cowiche unit, and during the late season they usually have elk all over. Its nothing to see 150 elk from there living room (in the spotting scope). This year, no weather, and the elk are still up high. My younger brother saw a group of like 14 cows on top of the mountain one day, and that was it. He missed a spike in the muzzleload season and saw 6 spikes total.

No snow no go for me this year. I sure wish we could have gotten better weather for early and late season. I love hunting this unit but it is only open to hunting during the late season for archery and if there is no snow I have really no idea where to find them. To bad it isn't open during the early season. Oh well, I guess I will have to wait until next year.

Did the late archery elk hunt and between my partner and myself saw only 2 cows from afar. Very little snow and cold and clear is not the best for hunting. Saw 10+ mule deer on the last day w/ 4 legal bucks. Should have gone after deer instead, maybe.

Ya I'm seeing more and more bucks in that unit. But don't tell anybody, its my backup if the spot on opening day doesn't produce next year ;)

Thats good maybe the whole yakima deer herd will start recovering. I saw quite a few does in there during the spring, so things are starting to look better.

Welcome to the site Mr. Maybee. Sorry to hear that you didn't have any success. At least you didn't waist 5 points like I did. Entiat tag soup is still tag soup.

My Dad filled his Muzzle loader Cow Tag on Opening Morning, 350#s hanging (BIG OLD COW)

I saw a Nice 6x6 moving uphill, A very Tired Bull his tongue was hanging out about a FOOT.  I tried to get a quick picture but couldn't find the dam camera.
Also saw a wallow that had been tore up.  I have 6 point and still waiting for the Bull Tag.

Yeah this year i decided to go elk hunting with muzzleloading.  :IBCOOL:I got drawn in the Cowiche, and man i shot at 3 cows before i shot mine but it was my first so i felt good bought it  :) and while we packed it out we still ran into elk then we saw a nice 5 by 4 and 2 spikes but the cows were bigger so i shot at them. and i still got my elk opener.

My dad late bow hunts in there and he shot at three bucks and missed them all one was a 4 by 4 at 60 yards and a 2 by 3 at 40 yards and then a 5 by 4 down hill quartering shot. :'( Then he came home and hunted the last weekend over here by Wenatchee and shot at a buttload of does then finally hit one and we chased it for miles and couldn't kill it
