My boss just picked one up to hunt with.Anyone hunt with one
-
No but I saw one today. Pretty nice looking dog. Couldn't say anything about their hunting ability??

Great for upland but they get too cold for waterfowl.

Great upland bird dog, short hair so probably not the best cold weather dog, but at the same time my friend uses his dogs through all of chukar season in some pretty cold nasty areas. My dad had one back in the mid-1970s and it was a great pheasant, quail and chukar dog. Great breed IMO.

He brought the pup over last evening,at first I thought redbone hound...What a cool pup,11 weeks old.The lil gal pointed my cat that was funny,,

They can be soft dogs. Harsh training methods don't go down well with a lot of them.
I like the breed but not enough to walk away from English Pointers.

I've had a Vizsla now for over 8 years. I will agree with everything said above. The are great bird dogs with great noses. I also have a 9yo GSP and a new 1yo GSP. The Vizsla has a noticeably better nose than my GSP's and others I've hunted with. They can be very soft and do not take well to harsh punishment. If I even raise my voice to mine she will roll over on her back with her tail between her legs. But they are also very eager to please. The are great family dogs, better than GSP's in my opinion. They can be very clingy though and mine demands attention constantly. My female is also very protective. Which is good and bad. Overall they are a great family/hunting dog.

Owned labs, GSP's , pointers, Brits and really like hunting behind Vizsla. great family dogs, lots of character, very good noses. I think better family dogs than pointers, GSP's. Mine hunts in deep snow with no problems

I heard that they were origionally breed to hunt phesants from horseback and tend to range pretty far. Making them better for open area hunting than thick, and harder to keep up with. Any eperience on that stuff guys?

Id say the exact opposite. Most are pretty close ranging.

Ive never hunted behind one so i thought id ask.
I must of heard it form some one talking out thier hole.

There are some V's that range pretty well off horse, but if you want to generalize them, they are typically closer working dogs.

I'd agree with this. My vizsla works way closer than my GSP's.
