Camping at Sol Duc Hot Springs this week with the kids. Any areas near there to see elk or bear? Redi

Yup, lots of USNF just to the west of you.  There is also the park but, they frown on hunting and guns.

Yes, but you will attract unwanted attention depending on what and how you are carrying.

The park is still scared of guns.  They know they are legal, but still have all the 'no guns' signs up.  They said they want to discourage them since they can't out right prohibit them.
If staying at the Hot Springs, I'd just do the Seven Lakes Basin Loop hike and probably see bear and goats maybe some elk.  If you're fast you can do it and be back in the hot springs recovering.
