Title: Rockfish in marine area 11?
Post by: yorketransport on August 18, 2014, 08:53:50 PM
We went out bottom fishing around Pt. Deffiance and Vashon Island on Sunday and for the first time in all the years I've fished in that area, I caught not 1 but 2 vermillion rockfish out there. Neither was kept (obviously) and both came out of about 45 feet of water on sandy bottoms. I was just surprised to see them, especially that shallow.

Other than those, it was a surprisingly slow day. We only caught 2 flounder, a couple of bull head, and 3 dog fish. None of the dog fish were worth keeping though. I don't keep any of them under 3 ft; they aren't worth the trouble. :chuckle:

I'm at about 28 to 30 inches for minimum worthwhile size.  Have you fished Double Bluff for the Rock Sole?  We did many many years ago and had a great time catching some goood eats.

I haven't made it up that far north yet but I'd like to. It seems like it may be time to find a new spot. We used to be able to go out and catch a limit of both rock sole and sanddab, but it's starting to get pretty slow these days. If this keeps up I'll be stuck fishing for salmon! :yike:  :chuckle:
