First time going out this year. My friend and I wanted to overlap seasons to make the most of a 3 or 4 day trip. Any good GMUs that overlap? The deer place I wanted doesn't really have elk and my ideal elk spot has no deer (OR the deer season is far enough away that we can't stay that long).
I have an eastern elk tag, but he'll likely get a west so location doesn't matter.

Depends on weapon choice but for archery there are a lot of good units that have both 336, 340 are my first picks good luck to ya

If you want to try the west side, a Weyerhaeuser St. Helens access permit would let you hunt some decent area for both deer and elk. At least one of the GMU's is open for either sex deer, and either sex elk, with bull elk being 3 point minimum. That gives you a lot of opportunity to harvest an animal, if you just want meat for the freezer.

If you have an eastern elk take and he buys western how do both of you plan to hunt deer and elk in the same unit at the same time?? Or is that not what you are trying to do?

Sounds to me like he's willing to hunt the west side if it means better overall opportunity. He would not be able to take an elk but his partner would.
