Howdy,
it's coming up on me and my wife's first anniversary. Was planning on going on a combination bottom fishing/salmon fishing trip out of Westport, with Westport Charters. Has anyone ever done this that could let me know how it is? Thanks

My son and I went on a combo trip on August 24. Fishing was outrageously good. We caught flounder for ling bait, then limited the boat (20 people) on lings in about an hour Lings were probably 15- 18 pound average with several around 30. We ran for an hour or so, then limited on salmon in about an hour and a half- roughly 75% kings with several close to 30#. Only downside was we actually caught fish too quickly.
That was on the Slammer out of Deep Sea charters. The boat/skipper really does make a difference. Most are good, some are willing to put in extra effort and not just go through the motions.
Most of the combo trips fish specifically for rockfish and then salmon. IMO well worth the extra 50 bucks.

Awesome. Thanks for the help.

As Bullkllr said, well worth the extra cost. You're out there anyway, you might as well load up. Hula Girl/Westport Charters and Gold Rush/Kevin Vasereno are also worthy vessels to fish off of.

Yup! Worth the money. The boats mentioned above are great, and may as well mention Capt Don Davenport on the Ranger at Ocean Sportfishing Charters, he gave us a great trip. My favorite is the Hula Girl.

If you want to fish for lings you need Deep Sea Charters and Rhett's boat the Slammer. He consistently outfishes everyone else (I've been tallying their fish reports for a month)....
I fished the Tequila Too and Blue Eyes before and both are solid boats but Hula Girl and Slammer seem to be the favorites down there.
I'll be booking with Rhett again for bottomfish before the end of the season.

We ended up going with the Discovery out of Westport Charters for a combination bottom fishing and salmon fishing trip. It was awesome. Caught plenty of Rockfish, then went out for salmon where we quickly limited out. It was well worth it for the experience, and the nice sized silvers. We will definitely be doing this again next summer!
