Title: WOLVES IN THE COWICHIE UNIT
Post by: LittleHunter on August 31, 2014, 11:04:53 PM
I went up to the hills on Saturday evening in search for a bear and my mom decided to tag along. I headed to a ridge line that i like to walk down where i have seen a few bears in the clear cut below surrounded by thick timber. Once we arrived to the point i wanted to be and glass around until dark my mom spotted a small heard of elk in the bottom of the clear cut feeding there way towards the the upper end are way. After watching the elk for allmost a hour without a bear in sight i was glassing over the clear cut and spotted two wolves moving there way through the clear cut on the same path the elk traveled on and i noticedthey both had white callers. Once i told my mom about the wolves she thought i was joking but once she looked though my binos she said theres no misstaking them for a coyote. Two big solid black wolves with white callers. So today i called a gamie that i personally know and thought i would pick his brain to see if i could get any info and he acted like i crazy.

The Twisp rancher reported wolves 3 times to federal bios. And all three times they told him there were no wolves in the state.  When he got caught with a dead wolf hide they prosecuted him.
One bio even made this statement" I will put that in my file with my big foot sightings".
So can you see why the ranchers are refusing to report wolves?  They made every effort to cooperate with nothing but slaps in the face and prosecution.  They were forced to take the other solution.

Just black labs getting some last minute upland bird training before the season starts, they thought they would impress their owner by doing on the sly without him. :chuckle:

The wolves of the Cowichie migrated from south central British Columbia, northern British Columbia and Alberta provinces of Canada, migrating Canadian wolves now come with collars. “This is a natural colonization,” said Fitkin. “The wolves are naturally immigrating.”
