Title: Socks on decoy heads?
Post by: David Y on September 02, 2014, 04:59:02 PM
Hey all….

I picked up a few decoys at a garage sale and a couple of them have the cuff part of a sock cut off and placed over their heads.  Anyone know why they would be covered like this?

Thanks!

Were the heads flocked? If not maybe the guy was just trying to keep the heads looking good.

No flocked heads, they were kind of cheap dekes… just starters for me.  I thought it must have been some sort of secret decoy method I hadn't heard of yet!  But maybe he just didn't want the heads to fade or something….

That's a new one on me. Maybe the last owner was a falconer and is use to hooding his birds.

i used to use socks or old long sleeve shirt sleeves to protect the heads when they were thrown in a deke bag together. cheap insurance and good extra T.P. in a pinch:)

I've considered doing it to the dekes I Texas rig since they get banged around a lot but it was just never worth the trouble to me.

I use blk cotton socks on all the heads/necks of my flocked full body goose decoys and old t-shirts for the bodies. Trying to keep em nice for as long as possible.
