Title: Anybody know a good area for horseback archery
Post by: Rob0645 on September 05, 2014, 03:49:49 PM
Hello everyone I am new to the form. I have been archery hunting for the last 5 years. It seems to me archery is getting pretty popular because all my usual spots are crowded. There was a guy driving down the logging roads yesterday bugling from his truck >:( . At this point I am just done with all of the stupidity. My wife and I have 3 strong horses at our disposal. My problem is I have no idea where I can pack in to get away from people any help you can give me will be appreciated.

I would look into the high country.. Great opportunity to get away from archery hunters there.

Let me guess...they were in a big arse white truck :chuckle:  Seems no matter where I go the past five years there is a guy in a big arse white truck bugling from the front seat.  Usually while the truck is still running.  Absolutely freaks the heck out of the elk!  CL and I both have had elk coming right to us and they bust out like their tails just caught fire.  I'm beginning to think there is some sort of radiation that emits from white automotive paint that clouds sound judgment.  That or it is a successful tactic in Russia :dunno:

You looking for eastside or westside?  Any elk or bull only?

Any of the 'wilderness' areas are off limits to vehicles and anything mechanized so that's where I'd start my searching. Nat'l forests next. Most are full of hiking trails w/maps available many places.
Just curious, if you're seeing all these vehicles and watching folks bugling from their trucks, it doesn't sound like you're too far from the road either.
Most days I couldn't tell ya who or what went down the rd. I'm in the woods most of the day. The rigs I do see in the middle of the day from camp I could care less about since most are just visiting or checking out new areas in their off time.

Back in '92 was the first time I hunted the bumping. Lots of road hunters, guys would put egg shell foam on the hood and place their bow on it w/an arrow on the string. Hunters were everywhere. I almost went home, until I did what I normally do and that was hunt. As soon as I parked and got off the road we didn't see a hunter.
