Title: Which UTV?
Post by: CP on September 10, 2014, 07:04:24 AM
I’m overwhelmed, Rhino, Teryx, Commander, RZR, Outfitter, and the list goes on.  Which one do you suggest and why?

My son and I have been following UTV's for a few years and think we have decided on the new Yamaha Viking. They make a 3 and 6 person model. The Yamaha rhino was one of the most reliable and now the Viking has many improvements over the rhino. I like the way Polaris rides and the clearance but they break down way too often. We have sold all our Polaris ATV's and gone to Hondas, they are so much more reliable and almost never in the shop. I was going to get the Honda UTV but I think this new Yamaha might be a better machine.

I looked at every model of UTV, then went with the Can Am 1000 ATV.  I could not have made a better choice.  You can get the model with a two seater.

The thing has more power than I will ever use! I have yet to find a hill it wont climb with ease. The ride is as smooth as being on pavement!!

I found the UTV's were just to big for what I was looking for.

I would of went with the Can Am model if I had went ghe UTV route.
Well worth every penny!!!

I have had the polaris Rzr 50" since 2009 and have had no problems what so ever just regular maintenance..  I am currently have 3200 miles but have not used it as much as I would like this year..  I like the size because I can still go around the gates here in idaho that atv's and utv's are allowed..  They don't have much for storage so I put a roof rack, hood rack and a couple other extras to store stuff...  Also use it every winter for plowing and it does outstanding..

Will that fit in a standard pickup bed?

Yes it will. My buddy hauled his in his short box chevy.  He just bought a couple 2x12 the length of bed and tailgate so all the weight was not on the tailgate..

What are you going to use it for first off ? That is the most important thing to think about.

This is my 2014 RZR 570 50 inches wide and legal for trail riding on ALL forest circus trails. I said TRAIL, not forest circus roads. I went wolf hunting in Idaho last week and this went every place. Easy on fuel and way more power than you'll ever need. I got rid of my 800 Commander because it way to big and couldn't go a lot of places. Plus, the Commanders get VERY, VERY hot and are unbearable to ride in the summer. I tried everything under the sun to keep it cool enough to ride, but you can't do it.

I was going to buy a Razor, but I got to searching and found they had a lot of problems. So I ordered a Honda.

Commanders had a lot more issues. I read up on RZR's and heard the same complaints about any of the brands and decided on the RZF because of all the accessories that are available, a heck of a lot more than any other brand I'd say.

Only thing i dont like about polaris is their belt driven versus
Shaft drive.

Oh geeze, what has a shaft drive ? Every ATV, SxS I've owned have all been belt driven since 2001. :dunno:

KYMCO might be another way to go. The dealer I know that sells them, told me that KYMCO makes most of the major parts for ALL major brands.

Two Polaris  Rangers for 6 years each and no problems with either.  And we work 'em hard.

I am absolutely loving my Honda Pioneer!  Not the fastest machine out there, but has done all I have asked and more.

Can you get that Honda in a long bed pickup?

See how wide the Honda is and the length. I don't think it will. My 570 RZR won't, it's 10 feet long, bumper to bumper.

I have had an Arctic Cat Prowler since 2007,  zero problems and goes damn near anywhere.   The trannys are belts but the final drive is shaft to a differential with independent cv axles on most if not all brands as far as I know.  Could be wrong about some but don't think so.

ive been looking at the 50" ranger rzr 900, small enough to fit closer to quad trails, but not as much utility for farm/work use...

My  Honda Pioneer  500 is the under 50" model and although I haven't tried it in my PU I'm sure it will fit. From the front bumper to the back tire is about 8', but with a truck camper I'll never know.

Some are liking the Honda's over the Polaris's?  I just went and test drove one of the new Polaris Browning editions. I have stopped in and looked it over twice now.  Still trying to figure out which one I want.
