Title: What is the late hunt like?
Post by: Dbax129 on September 16, 2014, 05:40:20 AM
So I have been thinking about it and I am looking forward to the late hunt (archery).  Can anybody tell me what to expect from the animals? Behavior? Feeding changes?  Anything I should start researching more to improve my chances of success?

Good warm boots.  (eastside tag) and wool.   I use wool anyways.

O yeah. I will be hunting wet side, so that and waterproof everything is a must.  Its a bummer so fewunits are open, but i will get scouting here soon.

practice shooting with a jacket and raingear on.  The bulls seem to break off from the cows, only a handful stick around and aren't as talkative.  Sometimes the ice forms on leaves and twigs, making it even louder to walk than when it is hot and dry.

In the units I've hunted there are folks driving all over looking for animals. Its almost like modern firearm season except you can't reach out and kill them with a bullet. I have had 4 close opportunities in the late season and in 3 cases someone drove up on the animal/herd I was sneaking up on and blown them out.
