Title: Do you know the roads in the Weyerhaeuser Longview Unit
Post by: Dnix on September 16, 2014, 07:24:49 PM
Is there anyone out there that can help me find my way to driving into the Weyerhaeuser Longview area. I have purchased the permit and have the gate key, but I have very little knowledge of the roads and how to navigate them.
The past few years I have hunted just North of this area on the road that is just before the 2000 Road. I don't know the name or number of the road, but it is the one with the gravel pit. While hunting the DNR land, my buddy and I decided to purchase the Weyerhaeuser permits and give the Weyerhaeuser area a try.

The problem is, I have now idea how to drive into that area. Looking at the map Weyerhaeuser gives you, there are only a few "Keyed Access Gates" and a whole lot of "No Key Access Gates". We tried driving into the 2000 Road only to find it was dug-out at the Weyerhaeuser property line. We parked there and worked the area on foot. While hoofing it, we met a guy driving on the 1900 Road, but he could not (or would not :dunno:) show us on the map how het got there. He did have the correct Red permit and the correct map for the area, but could not explain how he got to the 1900 road. He said he had been hunting that area since he was 9 years old and never knew the area by road numbers, he just knew where the roads went.

So, if you know the area and would be willing to help me out, I would very much appreciate a little help from someone who knows the area and how to navigate it.

Head south on I-5. Turn onto 504 ( Castle Rock), continue towards ST Helens. 1900 is the CRAZY HUGE logging road on the left before you hit Kid Valley.

I see your from Puyallup.
I grew up in Longview, but live here now as well. I have an old Weyco map, I could get a photo copy to you. It shows all the roads and numbers. Honestly though, in my opinion, the 2000 side above the 500 line is better for elk.
