Title: shoot or pass?
Post by: Naches Sportsman on September 17, 2014, 05:32:40 PM
If you had this bull tag, would you shoot or pass on this guy opening day if you had a bull tag? This is not the biggest bull in the area, but I would have a hard time staying off the trigger. I hope to get better pictures of him.

Would not even cross my mind to pass....I would shoot!

I think it's a shooter for most people in any unit in this state. There will be a few guys that would decide based on where they were and the potential for bigger bulls. Looks like a nice 350ish bull

Just my 2 cents but never pass on something the first day that you wouldn't pass on the last day.

Thinking about it more, if I was to shoot him I would want the muzzy tag. This time of year would be awesome to hunt.  Really, This would be in the top 5 I would shoot in this unit. I hope to add another trail camera in the area soon and get better footage of the bulls with a go pro.

Reposition that camera to be facing north or south so you don't get washed out with the sun.

Don't get caught up with "shoot or pass" or you'll never be happy. Shoot first measure later!

That's a dandy bull in my book, regardless of tag drawn or unit, it would be hard to pass that fella up, a legal bull is a good bull, who's to judge on what you feel is a trophy elk.  Second guessing will eat you up, not worth it in my opinion.  Let one fly.

I thought it was a joke post at first... :dunno:

On second thought, though, that bull is a little short on the eye guards and could be a bit longer along it's dagger points.  Better let him grow another year.

It really depends, from where I am at, I'd cut some hair. Now if it was my backyard area and had/have spent as much time in there as you do, I'd pass. Really comes down to what your looking for and is this a compromise ?

Beautiful bull, but there are bigger bulls in the unit. That being said; if it was me I would shoot. Too many times I've tried to hold off for something else while hunting and been only able to leave with a tag in tow. He has great fronts and an awesome frame. But he looks to be a little weak in his tops. If you'd be happy with him, drop the hammer on him and have no regrets.
