some of you might know, but i drew the peaches ridge bull tag that starts on oct 20th. i've been scouting a couple places and was wondering if anyone knew what the area around the Taneum Shelter is like come october 20th or so. is there a lot of people hunting around those ridges when mod fire opens for elk. just kind of want a little idea of what i can expect since i will most likely be camping somewhere within a 1-3 mile radius of that area. any insight would be great thanks.

What taneum shelter. Are you sure you know what your talkin about?

the small wooden shelter on ft 1367 i believe it is. there is a sign on a tree naming it taneum shelter anyway.

It's always a zoo wherever you go up there, but hike far and you should have no problem finding some elk  .He knows what he is talking about everyone that has ever spent much time in the peaches unit knows about the shelter...

I had the rifle peaches tag in 2012 and hunted the taneum. We were 3+ miles from the truck and saw a couple hunters every day. I was tagged out by the general season opener so cant comment on that but we saw elk everyday. Get away from the roads, spend time glassing and you'll do good. It's a fun tag to have so enjoy the opportunity!

There are usually two or three drop camp above and around the shelter and be ready for all the motorcycle traffic it is a zoo.

ok sounds good. thanks. there was already a couple camps back there. im thinking i would camp somewheres near the top of manastash ridge around that area and hunt one side of the ridge one day and the other the next. some of those holes are pretty good so it might take close to a full day to hunt some of them, ill most likely be hunting alone. thanks again for the insight.
