I canned 36 pints and a few quarts.
Never done it before... HOLY SMOKES that is a quick good meal.

Since you two took my bait...
I have made two meals with one that was really good. I took the contents of the jar and dumped it into a cast iron pan. Heated the entire contents and added a table spoon of flour to thicken the liquid and make gravy.
I then made mashed potatoes and put them on top of heated meat. Put the entire contents into the 350 degree oven for 30 min.
It was fantastic...

Now if only I could get another Elk I would make more! I would take meat out of jar heat in microwave, put on top of hot rice and eat. A family friend that gave us the recipe for canning would heat and put on hotdog buns with ketchup for his kids.

Canned venison is much the same. You could just eat it out the jar with crackers and some cream cheese :chuckle:

Canned venison was a staple growing up. I like to dump juice and all in a skillet with mushrooms, onions, and sometimes bacon, and let it cook down until the liquid is mostly gone. Then eat it along side your mashed potatoes and sweet corn. That was my favorite meal growing up.
I can a lot of half pints and eat it right out of the jar for lunch. In this case, I add seasoning salt or steak seasoning to the jars before canning,

I have never had canned deer or elk....can someone post a picture and maybe a recipe. What can you compare it to. Maybe someone would like to work a trade on a pint of canned meat. I could offer up some smoked deer jerky or ?? I am always looking for a new way to do things.

I compare it to crockpot roast. Tender and ready to shred for tacos or use as it for French dip. Add it to stews or chili, etc.

Practice a few pints with the toughest / cheapest cuts of beef you can find.

Heat up with some Bullseye bbq sauce.... for shredded pulled venison sandwiches. Also for a quick carneasada tacos or fajitas.
