Title: Mazama bear down
Post by: mtmn35rem5 on September 23, 2014, 08:33:30 PM: Was able to shoot my first bear out near Mazama this past Sunday. Have been driving over from the west side ( I love the country over there) for the past few weekends and had a lot of encounters but just couldn’t pull it together until the other day. I have had them run out in front of my truck, seen them were if I shot I would never recover them, had one move into a brush thicket in the afternoon that I could see all sides of and figured I’d simply wait him out. He stayed in there till it got dark.. and two fridays ago I shot over the back of a good sized tan colored one! I figured it was a only a matter of time before it came together so I kept making the drive over. Sunday I was glassing a brushy hill side and spotted him at about 5 o’clock. Laid out prone and took a look at him through the bino’s. Didn’t see any cubs and kind of knew he wasn’t "huge" but he was “big, 'nuff” for me. Estimated him at around 200 yards or so, first shot rolled him down the hill and into the brush. I thought he was done so I stood up, so did he. He still had front wheel drive ( I hit him high and a little aft) and he started motoring downhill into a thick draw with blowdowns and a creek. I couldn’t see him but I could hear him. I figured it would be tough to track him through that crap and I’d better get in there and try and get a second shot on him because he was still going. I managed to get pretty close to him and could here him in the brush. Sounded like he was at right at my feet but I couldn’t see him. I started seeing some brush and trees shake and sort of knew were he was but could never see him for a second shot. This kept up for another ten minutes and I had to keep repositioning and moving along with him. Finally I saw his head and neck pop out around 40 feet away. A second shot and he flattened out. I was pumped, adrenalin was flowing the whole time trying to get the second shot in. At least he was kind enough to run towards my rig, so that was nice. It was a boar with a pretty nice coat on him and I couldn’t be happier. Here are a few pics, and no I didn’t intentionally try and make him look bigger then he really was!! :chuckle: Thanks for looking!

Thanks, Actually thats Browning xbolt in .300wsm I like it a lot but would like to get something synthetic/stainless as its getting beat up pretty good. Also I have had issues with the magazine not seating properly and if not noticed it won’t feed the next round. Other wise it shoots pretty good.

As far as my “handle” goes that started a long time ago when I was super young and wanted to be a “mountain man” :chuckle:, and loved visiting my grandfather and listening to his stories. He is the one who initially sparked my interest in hunting and the first gun he passed on to me was his .35 Remington pump 7600. I love that gun and I generally only use that for whitetail hunting back east and it shoots pretty well also!

I defiantly do not thin that is the same bear ctwiggs, the one you posted is a super fatty, or at least looks to be!
