Title: Youth pheasant was a bit of a bust at Big Flat
Post by: HunterStrait on September 24, 2014, 05:12:27 PM
Only got two over the weekend, a lot of people training their dogs instead of hunting :bash:.
It made it very difficult, and the pheasants were flying over Dalton lake to the other side where we cant hunt.
I had a ton of opportunities, but for being too used to shooting doves, i wasn't prepared when the bird would jump up right at my feet, but had my luck at far shots.
Wasn't too bad for my second year of hunting the youth hunt.

How was the weekend for you at big flat and lost island??

If I understood my dad's story correctly, he got 4 up on Tuesday (no shot available, and 3 up yesterday while at Big Flat...7 birds up, none in the bag.

Was there today helping plant trees for an Eagle Scout project. Obviously we weren't hunting but covered quit a bit if ground and didn't scare up any birds.

Driving around with the ranger we came across two guys pheasant hunting. They weren't wearing even an inch of orange. I'm new to Washington but I thought that was required? Also thought the senior hunt ended Friday? I quizzed the ranger about it and she was clueless. Got back home and checked the dates, the way I read it says it ended the 26th. What am I missing? They didn't hide from us so must have thought they were legal.
