Thinking about heading into the dry meadows area. Was wondering if this was a good area to start. Or around milk lake

How long did you wait for this tag? You're a month away and asking for help?

You still have time to drive over and take a look at the country. So you have an ideal where to go. If you put your time in and stay out all day. You should be able to get a nice little rag horn. Especially at the end of the season when a lot of the hunters go home discouraged.

I've been up twice. Been super busy at work. Plus I live on the other side of the state in Walla walla. This was second year putting in for that area. I wasn't asking for honey holes. Just asking if if those areas were a good starting spot. I'll be up there for 11 days and plan on doing a lot of hiking

That's the only way to hunt elk is all in. I'm not up there to party it up. I had eight points towards this tag. But only been putting in for this unit for two.  The blues
don't get as many tags. Lots of nice bulls

Crap!  Sorry I dont think I have ever seen your pm, I have been swamped archery hunting deer and elk out of state.

Steep and Deep,  find some dark timber and get in there.

Again, good luck

When does your season start?

When does your season start?

Should be the 20th of Oct, tag holders get 5 day head start before general season starts

Congrats on the tag.  Hunting is about the experience for me.  Family, friends, Gods country, etc.  Don't let the pressure of the tag get to you.  Doing the tag justice is between you and yourself.  Regardless of your goals, my advise would be to remember to enjoy the ride.  Chances of drawing a bull tag again anytime soon is slim.

As for hunt areas, you've already gotten the best advice.  Get out there as soon as you can, find dark timber and look for FRESH sign.  Stay mobile and don't get stuck hunting the same area hoping the elk will show up, even if it looks "elky".  The first 5 days are very important.  Good Luck.  Hopefully we'll be reading your success story in Nov.

Congrats on the tag! I have hunted that area for quite a few years. The elk are in there, you just have to work a little for them. Access has been a little tough the last few years with quite a few of the main roads off of 410 being blocked and closed, but you can get there if you look hard enough.

Wish I could help more, but my hunting party put in for the same tag and 3 of us drew them as well! Could be a busy year for quite a few of us!

Good luck!

Just got a text from a buddy if mine that has a rifle bull tag there. He has passed on a number of average 5x5's and a couple small 6x6's. Has seen 2 340 class bulls taken in the last couple days. Heading over after work to help locate a shooter with him , hopefully get it on video.

Doesn't the season start on the 20th for modern rifle in peaches?

I believe there are some rifle permits for early October as well.

I know there is like 3 rifle tags for quality that are the end of September. The archery bull tags. Then the modern rifle starts the 20th. I think he is mistaken and his buddy has a muzzleloader tag and not a rifle tag. The muzzle tag looks to be going on right now.

Page 49 of the elk quality hunts has an EF Oct 1-10 any bull; there are ten tags given in GMU 346. There is also a muzzleloader special permit for the same time frame that runs concurrent but includes the taneum and little naches.

I see, the little naches hunt. When someone says the peaches rifle tag I think the 20th-2nd hunt.

Yes, my bad. He has a or I should say had a Naches rifle tag not a Peaches tag. We ended up filling his tag on Saturday. Called a nice 6x6 into 30 yrds and dropped it. Had multiple bulls talking in the morning but hadn't laid eyes on any of them as they were already up in the timber. Located one nice sounding bull up in a timber bowl that had a couple other bulls bugling back and forth. Worked our way up to them , got the wind right and called in one of the bulls , ended up being a nice 6x6 and he took him. Quartered him out and hung on a makeshift meat pole down in the shade. Made the first pack out to the truck with head/ horns/ back straps/ tenderloins/ scrap meat. Got  to the truck at 3:30, went back in with pack boards and deboned the quarters and got back to the truck by 6. Awesome hunt.

He's happy with him. I had just gone over for the weekend to help out with calling and such as his other buddy had to go back to work. He drew a trifecta this year, Clemens Mt. ram tag ( filled), Little Naches rifle tag (filled) and he just left this morning to go fill his Selkirk Mt. Bull moose tag.

No that was a different bull. That camp was next to us. They killed 2 really nice bulls with muzzleloader.
