I will be spending a weekend on Whidbey Island in two weeks. Is it worth it throwing in some shore fishing gear? Any tips?

Bump :sry:
My main focus will just be unwinding, but I thought I may take a few casts if it is worth bringing my rod & tackle. Was hoping someone may know. Thanks!

I have no first-hand knowledge of any fishing on Whidbey. But I have heard quite a bit over the years of active and pretty productive shore fishing for salmon. There should still be silvers in the areas mentioned in the links , but it probably is a little past prime time. They are still getting silvers in the straits, many of which have to pass Whidbey.
For what it's worth- I'd fish...

Shore anglers are also getting a few coho off Bush Point, Lagoon Point and Fort Casey on west side of Whidbey Island; Point Wilson near Port Townsend; Marrowstone Island; Point No Point; and Lincoln Park off West Seattle.

This past weekend was the first we have heard of good numbers of silvers being caught off the beaches of Whidbey Island. This should be just the start of things and should only get better as the season goes on. The fishing should be at it's prime this next month. Though the most popular spots tend to be Bush Point, Lagoon Point and Fort Carey there are many other spots on the Island that also produce well. With a little searching you can find some productive spots where you can fish with less competition.

People do well where the other poster linked. Use a rotator with herring under a bobber and you should catch something. This year the coho have just been trickling in since early September in that area, so I don't think it's really past prime.

You should be able to do ok. Fish Fort Casey, Lagoon Point, Bush Point, Possession Point, they all can produce. Herring a couple feet under a bobber, buzz bombs, or my personal favorite, Rotator with a mini squid behind it over the hook. Have done very well with that. Fish it right up to the shoreline, they'll hit it at your feet if you're near the water. I know guys that catch them out there in November. The later into the month you get, you also might get lucky and find an early winterrun steelhead running the beach. Good luck!
