Im thinking of heading over to starvation and the loup loup. After those fires this year im think it might be a good spot to go try and get a nice buck. I could be wrong but i think it just might be worth a look. Never been there though. Anybody willing to give any tips ideas or thoughts about those areas?

Think a lot of guys are thinking the same ...I know a lot of people headed east next week ...and with all those doe tags out there I can not wait to see how this goes ...GOOD LUCK :tup:

Unlike some others here, I am not opposed to the herd reduction strategy implemented in the wake of this years fires. That being said, I remember the cluster f*** of the last youth "any deer" season, not that long ago. Son and I had 3 incidences of shots too close and or our direction that year. One more reason to get off the beaten trail.

Wow! See now thats why i like this site. You guys give me a heads up on everything. Well i guess ill be seeing a bunch o orange out there this year. Or just have to hike deeper in the woods than everybody else. Whats the farthest most people go from their truck i tfhey leave it, 500yards? Haha

So yeah like rick said. Get off the beaten trail. Maybe ill sit glass glass and wait to see what comes by.

When our group hunted the Loop Loop (35 yrs) we were late if we didn't leave camp 1-1/2 hrs before daylight, reason was too many hunters! needed to get far into woods before them. Miss the area but not the ORANGE ARMY!

Last year got back to ridge way back there thinking there's no way there's anyone else...... That lasted about an hour the. Saw someone ahead of me working the same ridge. I'm worried about the Orange army this year. Good thing we like the area and like to camp.

Seems like every where id like to go theres a bunch of people. Yeah im ok with a couple here and there but an army as you guys say is pretty scary. Last year a kid from my neighborhood got shot out there. Im trying my hardest to avoid something like that. Sounds like private lands the way to go now. But just doesnt seem the same dont know why.

About 4 years ago we were hunting in the area, opening day, foggy, we were sitting for a little bit. And all of the sudden hear a gunshot and a bullet hits about 6' above our heads. We got out of there so quick. There are places that won't be an army but there's still people everywhere. This year will probably be way worse with the fire restricting people to smaller area. Last year was the most I had Seen after the tripod buck was published

With the fires and a lot of folks not wanting to hunt the black Wear your body armour.....

I don't think hunting will be bad this year in the burn areas, if there is some food for them somewhere. When I drove the Loop Loop it almost looked like a controlled burn, the ground was burned pretty bare but not every tree was a black toothpic like some of the 30 mile and tripod fires. I talked to a guy the other day that had checked out his hunting area above Winthrop and he said there was alot of new growth.
Heck if it's burned you'll be able to see the deer and the ORANGE ARMY easier!

In the old days it was thick and deep. Deer had a lot of escapement from the orange cloud of death. Its a lot harder for them now. One guy in orange can cover a big area versus 20 feet. That was the Tripod burn. Not sure what the new one did in there.

My brother called in a wolf up that way last weekend. 10 yards. Best of luck to you, no matter the decision.

I think everyone should hunt in the county they live in!! We need a local season!

Hunt local is always fun. This little 3 pt. black trail teased me in my back yard on opening day of muzzleloader season (9/26) Watched him eat apples for about 20 minutes infront of my game camera.
Actually, there will be spots to hunt around the burn but you need to be willing to go into cover away from the pumpkin patch. There are spots around the burn where most hunters refuse to go.

You mean, like if you live in King County you would only hunt there! From what I see on the news they know how to use firearms pretty well! :bdid:

I figured the "hunt local" comment was from the dry side of the mtns.
Mostly just "tongue in cheek" but they really wouldn't mind if we stayed home.
Not going to shoot our backyard blacktail when we can have a hunting camp in the sun on the east side actually hunt.
