I was rejoicing at the weather report and my gf was giving me the wtf is wrong with you look. After a second she asked "Is that good for hunting?"
The last three years have been dry openers and with fire closures it made for a crowd. I hope it pours.

I ripped the crotch out of my rainpants looking for sheds last spring, so The boys might get wet this weekend, but I don't care, going to be nice to see the rain. Good hunting to all and be safe😄

The nastier the weather the better for blacktails! More or less anyway...

Harder to hear them but they are more out in the open right?

I'm not totally sure why it's better hunting, probably lots of reasons. I think the main one is that you can move around their habitat *WAY* more quietly, and it's harder for them to smell. Plus, I don't think they bed as long in the rain because they get colder.

Blacktails live in such thick stuff, that it is virtually impossible to still-hunt quietly when it's dry and warm. But with a rain falling and the ground wet, even a clumsy person can move pretty softly.

Why is rain better (other than quieting the woods down)?.... for one it means the moon is not out at night so they won't be up feeding and will have to feed in the daylight. Two, in heavy rains they seek cover- again not being able to feed. So in between the rain storms, get ready.   :chuckle:

Out here (coast) it's forecast for 90% Friday night and 70% Sat.  Looks like a wet bike ride in the dark Saturday morning!  Good luck to all and be safe!  Enjoy you're time in the woods regardless of the weather or hunting success!

When i posted this it was 70% for my area, now it's mostly cloudy, chance of rain in the evening.  Still good for hunting, calm before the storm, i'm told the deer come out of hiding to enjoy it while it lasts type of thing.

I've actually noticed them out of the thick stuff when it is really wet, I don't think they like the leaves and branches pushing the wet into their hair.  Out in the open, it runs off more easily.

Good luck everyone, we are heading to the dry side in the morning to try to get my son his first deer.

It's bad for their senses too if the rain is pounding on stuff.  They can't hear something sneaking up on them.

It's not raining out in Forks unless it's bouncing up and hitting you on the wast.  :chuckle:
