I never really got to post my story of the kill so I will try to put it all down for ya all.
The day was Oct 20th and I had just got off work at 5 am and was debating wether or not to go home and go to bed or go hunting. ( shift work ) You cant kill deer in your sleep so I decided I better just hit one spot that I had seen alot of good sign. From work it was a 45min drive to the logging road gate and it was still far from light so I camped in the truck for a bit. The weather that day was really crappy which I am grateful for. Wind was blowing 20-30mph and lots of rain. As it started to get light out I got all my gear on and headed up the road. It was only a 3/4 mile hike to the first clear cut I was hunting. When I got there I posted up at a good overlook of the cut and started glassing. I hung out there for about an hour to see if anything would move through. It seemed to be the spot where I had seen the most sign and the most deer the year before. After an hour I started second guessing myself as to wether I should have hit the next clear cut back on the road first, and sitting there getting soaked and wind burnt probably wasn't going to pay off right there. So I got up and continued down the road. Between the two clear cuts there is an opening and a straight away in the road that has a few decent sized game trails that cut across so I figured I would watch it for a bit. Sitting down behind a large boulder of to the side of the road it didn't take long before a doe popped out.
As she stepped out of the woods she was acting alittle weird, not that there was another deer behind her but as if one was across the road in front of her. She just kept stareing into the bushes in front of her. After about 15min she finnally stepped across the road and went in. Where she walked in there was a small patch of woods with another logging road below it, so I cut back from where I was to head down the lower road to see if she chased another deer.
When I got down to where the game trail met the other road I didn't see anything. I waited for a while to see if she or another deer was going to pop out, then started up the game trail. Not even 5 steps up the trail and the crashin began. I figured it was her, and that she was all alone, and I was crazy for even thinking there was another deer around. So I continued up the game trail to head back up to the first road I was hiking down, and from there head down to the next clear cut.
Now I have to say I have never had buck fever before, and never thought I ever would. I was always so calm and cool on all my other kills, but when I popped out of the game trail and looked back down the road and saw the toad I started shaking like I just went swimming in in Ice water. The buck was around 75 yards out quatering towards me down the road. I dont know how he didn't see or smell me because the wind was now not in my favor. I tried to post up to get a shot but he wasn't giving it to me as he cut across the road into the brush. When he walked through all I could see was horns and the very top of his back. Then he was gone into the thick stuff. I wanted to scream lots of dirty words. I really started second guessing myself as if I should have taken or atempted a head shot. A minute passed by that felt like forever and I thought to myself, "screw it im going after him". So I dropped my pack and cut across the road to the trail he dissapeared on. I headed into the brush trying to beas quiet as I could because I knew he didn't see me. About 30yards up the game trail it split. One way went down into a draw the other went uphill. I looked all over the ground for his tracks to tellwhich way he went, but couldn't find anything. So I guessed. Up we go. As I started up the hill I could see a small opening up ahead. Trying to be as quiet as I could I crept around a bush to the opening. I peaked around the bush and there he was 50yards uphill standing broadside stareing at me. It didn't take me long to get the crosshairs on him as I went for the neck. He dropped in his tracks.
I gave him a minute or should I say gave myself a minute to realize what just went on and how lucky I was to take such a monster. Then I made it up the hill 50 yards in about 2 seconds flat. I was amazed. 4x4 typical big bodied old bugger. I called my buddie who was hunting on the other end of the county and told him to get his a%* over here because I had just shot a monster. He called B.S. and made me send him a phone pic before he would leave his spot.

So that's my story. The deer is at the taxi, and I cant wait to get him back. My meat guy is still slack-in but he makes the best sausage I have ever had so its Worth the wait. ;)

Not sure why you would be telling guys anyway :dunno: If you're looking for company just have a story done for the new magazine, guys will believe you then :chuckle:

Its a Weatherby Mark 5 30-06. Sighted in for 180 grain.
