Well it was a short hunting season for me and my partner but boy was it a once in a lifetime year for my partner! He should have gotten my deer, and that would have had me shooting his, which would have ruined my closet dink shooter status! :yike:
Thanks BRO for not letting me ruin my reputation, and my wife thanks you as well since it would have ended up being anther mount on the wall. :chuckle:
I ended up with a 5x5, and he ended up with a 6x7 that had stickers that won't count because they are less than one inch. But it makes up the difference with lots of mass.
Mind you that this is his first mule deer he has ever killed. :rockin:
-
Nice. Any pics?
-
Great job now you can get the kid after her doe tag.
-

:yeah:
-
Pictures who takes those? :chuckle:
-
Well the iPad is not working to night will try again in the morning to post pictures. :dunno:
-
So wrong......how dare you post a story like that without pictures.

I think that's ban worthy. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Since the server change photo bucket isn't working like it used to, so I had to figure out a different way to post the photo's. :dunno:
So here is my dink 5x5, his eyegards hard to see in this photo.
Real young buck probably should have let him walk so he could have grown up to his potential. :chuckle:
My buddy spotted him and went after him across a creek and up a hill, so I just stayed put waiting to see what happens.
Well the buck just kept in front of him in the timber giving glimpses to me, but my buddy could never see him. Finally both deer and him stood there awhile out of my sight. Buddy takes two steps and the buck takes a hard left runs out in the open full bore, and I couldn't get a clean shot so whistled and he stopped looking broad side to me. Bad mistake on his part since it was only a 75 yard chip shot straight thru the heart.
Well as you can she bye the picture there he lays.
-
You guys really want to see my buddies 6x7 non typical? I think I just heard a big foots might have to go get some pictures if I can find my camera! :yike:
-
Never mind the big foots noise, it was just a squirrel. >:(

Well Tuesday we had to head home so we woke up early and started packing up. I was in a good mood and ribbing my partner singing to the tune of you ain't getting nothing for Christmas, but I added the words deer season. He was a good sport and takes my humor in stride, but I said hey atleast we have a deer to eat. :chuckle:
So off the mountain we go, we only got about five miles and he is in the lead.
When I see this thing in front of us that has a ton of bone on his head, so my buddy stops and gets in position no shot coming and all I can think is he is going to take off real soon.
Nope deer just looks back at us like what do you want this is my area. Then boom and the deer decides to take off around the hill, well my buddy takes after looking up while I wonder if the first shot is going to be enough. Then down hill he looks then shoots again, jump jump crash.
Well I ask did you get him? He starts down hill after him, while I can't believe what I just saw take place as this deer really didn't think we were bothering him and should have just left him alone.
My wonderment was interrupted bye a loud hooting and hollering from my buddy, well that buck is down.
I work my way down the draw to see this buck that looked like a banana bunch got stuck on his head, all I could say is good luck killing one bigger than that in your lifetime! :yike:
Well I guess You did get something for deer season, something really big, congrats BRO. :cue:
He started hunting deer with me in 2011 in my area with no luck, and then the next two years we both didn't get back to there.
So this year turned out great for both of us we had a good time hunting and conversing with our neighboring camp buddies sharing our daily hunts and what we saw or didn't see. It's really cool when camps can get along like this as we respect each other's first morning areas and knowledge of areas, and don't give away our secrets.
Every year I hunt our spot I see a couple that will ruin my closet dink shooter status, it's only a matter of time before its going to happen. :mgun:

Yea I was a bit jealous of the buck at first, but hey he earned it with lots of seasons with out getting anything in this state. But I do hold it against him that he is a Vikings fan. :chuckle:
-
Let me know what he scores please. I'm a throw out a guess of 205 1/4

Will know tomorrow after it gets measured at the Sprtsman Show Head and Horns Competion!
I'm thinking at least 200" gross. :dunno:
-
Great meeting with you today. That is one heck of a buck!! :yike:
-
Well it's offcially scored. Little lower than I thought but still a great rack.
Gross typical is 179 7/8.
Net typical is 165 5/8.
Made Washington State Records book. :IBCOOL:

What a great buck. I would have thought it would have scored a little more too. With that said, it shows how big those 180" bucks really are. They are few and far between. Congrats on both great bucks.
-
Great job boss!

Yea right 1/8 off gross 180, I think the mass makes it look bigger than it is. :chuckle:
I thought it was a Non typical, but they scored it as a typical. :dunno:
-
I will consider it a 180" can someone comment on why this was scored a typical? Just curious.
-
I am taking a guess the reason why they scored it as a typical is because it wouldn't go 190. To make it in the non typ books it would have to go over the 190 mark assuming this is a rifle buck. Those non typ points don't add up to very much
-
Awesome bucks by the way
-
Has anybody taped the buck's total gross inches? That's all I ever care about score wise. I don't see the need to penalize a deer for any inch he grew, whether it be a kicker or a G4 that is two inches longer than the other. :twocents:
-
That thing is nice!!

I am new at the scoring system but I believe the Safari scoring system scores everything with no deductions. My deer I took in last year was scored as a non-typical mule deer and ended up with a final score of 171 inches after 16 2/8 inches worth of deductions. I didn't know before this that a non-typical even had deductions counted. If I add the deductions my total is 187 2/8. So if I am correct, in theory I have a 171 Boone and Crocket and a 187 2/8 Safari deer.
-
Congrats to both of you! Some deer have a certain "WOW" factor that gets lost in the score, but really stands out in person. This deer has the wow and the cool factors to make it a trophy anywhere.
-
Bad ass bro. Great lookin deer

Mostly correct, although I'm not sure if Safari Club International measures the same way and Boone and Crockett and Pope and Young.
