Title: Hunting for upland game around Pullman
Post by: wonder on October 20, 2014, 12:27:55 PM
Will be heading out this week to visit my daughter and do a little upland hunting while over there and not seeing as many areas to hunt over there that I expected? Plan to go after pheasant, quail, huns, or chukar, not picky.

Looking at the GoHunt map I see a few places to hunt outside of Colton and some more down near the snake.  Does anyone know whether these areas are accessible?

I was told that there is good hunting near Colfax but don't see any areas on there that a person could just go hunt.  Is it worth going up there or better off heading down towards the snake?  I know I have to pay my dues and not looking for your favorite spots just wondering if I might have more luck south than north of Pullman and only have 1 day and 1 morning to get into them.  Thanks

In my limited experience there are more feel free to hunt properties than what shows on the map. I've never hunted that far north so you're leave may vary. I just head out in the general direction of ffth spots and often find other spots to try. Maybe I'm a bad map reader:) hopefully you get some better intel from someone more local to Pullman.

Thanks, not hunting until Thursday so I have a few more days to gather info and come up with a better plan?  Much appreciated!

If your going to the Snake there are a few  Army Corps of Engineer HMUs. Here's their collection of pamphlets:

Also, if you drive around the dirt roads Pullman/Colfax/Palouse/Garfield area, there are plenty of feel free to hunt areas (green signs). If you go towards the Snake besides the HMUs, it's mostly Hunt by Permission only.

I talked to someone over in Region 1 this morning and she said that not all the GoHunt spots are showing up on their maps and that's why it looks kind of bleak from that standpoint.  I guess it will be yet another scouting trip for me too.  Thanks for the tips!
