Hearing a lot lately about twitching jigs for salmon. Never done it but it sounds like it can be good and a fun different way of fishing. What's your success been. Pics would be cool

I used to twitcg jigs for coho and chinook a lot back in the day, but dont really do it anymore... Caught a ton of fishing using that method.
Fish them like a PW darts in slow deep holes, and fast popping retrieve in fast slots...
good luck!

The right combo of jig and you can really whack em with that method.
It can catch Silvers when nothing else will. Or put em in the boat 10fold over other methods.
-
It can really work at times. Other times there are better options. Like all methods, it has its time and place.
-
it's another good trick to know. another upside is that if you buy jigs in bulk, it's a much more cost effective way to catch silvers than spinners. if you aren't losing gear, you aren't fishing.
people overthink it though. just pretend you're fishing for smallmouth with a jig.

I've done better gettin' jiggy wid it, than I have drifting Dick Nites.

Jigs are good producers! Try black and purple and purple and black...
-
Use a heavy jig head with hootchies on them. You dont need real "Jigs".
Purple's, pinks and blues seem to kill!

Sounds like I'm gonna have a new method. Gonna hit up sportco when I get a chance to get some jigs. Prolly gonna focus the rest of the season on chums though. But like said I think black and purple maybe chartreuse will be good producers when I get a little bit of practice in the art of jigging.

I fish the coast a lot, purple and black, and purple and pink jigs do the trick many days. This pic is 3 hours in one afternoon about 3 weeks ago.

Very nice

I was twitching jigs before it was called twitching jigs... Very deadly if you adapt to the situation correctly. I've caught steelhead, humpies, chum, silvers, kings, cutthroat, rainbows, and dollies on jigs.
Each salmon prefers a slightly different retrieve. Also, the water speed, depth, and clarity factor in.
Sometimes tipped with prawn works.
My favorite method is taking a bare quality jig head, then threading on 3\4 of a pink worm tail.
Just don't use this as an excuse to snag. If you are fishing schools of salmon, learn to tell the difference between a bite and a bump from hitting the side or belly... Fish above them and not over and through them. A slow purposeful twitch will often out fish the ripping retrieve, and you wont have to waste time dealing with anal snagged salmon..

Here is the new colors we are field testing for twitch jig trailers.......shhhhhhh(http://)

Here are some links to current info...including how to fish the new Panic Minnow (awesome baits!)
This is a link to a blog on Northwest Sportsman Magazine's site:
http://nwsportsmanmag.com/editors-blog/humptulips-salmon-biting-landing-well/ (http://nwsportsmanmag.com/editors-blog/humptulips-salmon-biting-landing-well/)
This is an article at Washingtonlake site:
http://washingtonlakes.com/ReadArticle.aspx?id=603 (http://washingtonlakes.com/ReadArticle.aspx?id=603)
Also, there is a full feature article in the current (Oct) issue of Salmon-Trout-Steelheader that discusses everything from rods/reels/line/jigs to water conditions and types of fish. AND there is a full feature article in the Salmon & Steelhead Journal on the Satsop River that also details how to twitch jigs for Coho and Chums. I hear there might be an article in the November issue of Northwest Sportsman about fishing for Green River (King Co) Chums also highlighting twitching jigs...(that one's deadline was before Panic Minnows new colors were available...)
So the best place to find out about the Panic Minnows is the link to the blogs above.
Good Luck! It's my favorite way to fish for fall Salmon!
