Title: Another unsuccessful season
Post by: Ogre on October 25, 2014, 01:31:18 AM
Well, another season in the books for me.  Unfortunately, I wasnt able to harvest my first deer this year.  I attribute it to hunting an new area that I was unable to scout prior to the season.  With that said...good lord what a great time it was.  Saw a couple doe and a yearling, spent time in the woods and time with my father.  Time to start planning next years trip.  I figure we will go somewhere we are little more familiar with next season.  Congrats to those who have harvested this year.

Another unsuccessful season.

Those three words could sum up most of my hunting seasons in the state of Washington.  If Dad and I didn't make a point to go to Idaho each year, then I'd only have four successful seasons in my 18 years of hunting.

And time with Dad is what makes it all worth it.  I have many great memories hunting with Dad with no animal involved.  Keep at it.  Spend time in the woods.  Because nothing gets more animals than being in the woods.

I would say you were successful. You were able to get out and hunt, with your dad none the less, and that is what it's all about. Killing an animal is just icing on the cake.

Glad to see some folks enjoying the experience and not putting all the value of hunting on notched tags and blood on their hands.  Seems to have been a tough season for a lot of hunters this year.  Will be very interesting to see the harvest reports.  I don't think they are going to look too good.

I have a buddy who is always hounding me about no deer being in the unit i spent over 80 hrs scouting this year and he spent maybe 6 hrs.  Sign doesn't lie, and any time in the woods beats being in the city.  I tell him if he can't find peace and relaxation out there, and just enjoy the experience, he should probably take up knitting, because very few people harvest an animal every single year w/o putting in a LOT of time.

Good for anyone that can just go out for the experience and not get discouraged by "eating tag soup", it's a tough to find quality in a hunting partner.  I haven't harvested a deer yet (still a few days left in my season) but the time i've spent in the woods has been well worth the effort and i will do it all over again every year i'm able.

We were in 111 this year.  Sounds like we will be moving further west next season.  Not as long of a drive for us wetsiders and will open up the ability to scout a little more efficiently prior to the season.

This was posted on the 25th with 6 days left in the season... Plus a late season! You still have time. Hit another area in the middle of the month and do work! If you don't get one after that at least you can say you tried your hardest and get back at it next year!
