First Time with the GMU 215 Late Whitetail tag, Nov 1 - 20. I have scouted the wildlife area and some of the other public land at higher elevations.
Anyone hunted this before? Any suggestions?
-
I have hunted the valley before. Seen some nice whiteys. Good luck!
-
Awesome can't wait to hear how you do!
-
My wife and I got this tag too. We'll be hunting the last weekend.

There are some good game trails with nice choke points in different spots. Do not be afraid to walk right up to the canyon walls as there are little pockets that can not be seen from the road.

I'd try to get permission on some of the private land

Ahhh.......the famous 215 whitey thread. Every year there are those in the know of quality bucks, yet we never see any harvest pics of quality deer......

Go to Lemansky rd east of Lemansky lake and west of north pine creek road. There is a sliver of state land that comes to the road that has a logging road to access it. It used to be marked 4-5 years ago with a state sign.
The walk in logging road goes along the east side of Aeneas mountain side hilling go up in elevation gradually heading north. I know there are big whitetails in there just haven't seen them, the low lands to the east are all alfalfa fields that are private that have little feeder draws from the road to them.
Good luck!
PS once your on the road walking in its all state land pretty much unles you hike east down to the fields or go west along ways to the road that goes to the Lemesky lookout, and the guy who owns the house past the county road Is grumpy. :chuckle:
Ok by popular demand Im posting pictures of the spot to hike in from.
See the rectangular spot on the terrain picture the state land is above that to the left in the green area of trees, it beyond a cattle fence with a gate that is made of barb wire and wood posts. Used to have state DNR signs posted on fence.

my dad has the tag and i will be with him. hoping he will get a dandy. private land would be great but we are hitting the public land. good luck to the lucky tag holders

My 2014 modern whitetail harvest picture. Bucks in this area do exist, and this one was taken on state land. I definitely found quality meat upon butchering this deer.

Updated hike in spot with pictures!
I have made a few people mad because of this post so it must be a good spot! :chuckle:

We found that same spot 20 yrs ago when we used to archery hunt up there. It's good. I would recommend not overlooking some of the cattail thickets and the dense areas along the creek too. We've seen some BIG bucks in those areas!

I too have known Dana for 25 plus years a great guy . We were some of the only local farm kids in our area, my Wife worked with him for a while, and now our kids play sports together. I will say thank you to those who have posted to help just as someone who knows Dana.
My aunt used to live on Lemanasky Rd right near Aeneas lookout, wish I hunted then as we would literally count hundreds of deer in the evenings from North Pine Creek rd to their house, ended a long drive with some cool sights. Good luck to all hunting the late hunt and let's see those pictures :IBCOOL:.

Thanks... While we were there I know of a few bucks that got shot and hoping they will get shared.

Super nice bucks , and some good stories told.

Thank you for all the help and input. We had a great hunt where our hunters went 3 for 5. (2 - 5 points and a 4 point) We hunted from Fish Lake to Conner’s lake daily, finding most of the whitetail activity above Forde Lake and Blue Lake. I personally hunted 7 days and saw legal bucks daily. It was fun having the opportunity to pass on a few smaller bucks. We also saw a good number of mature Muley bucks including 3 or 4 wall hangers. I will post pictures asap, I have been having trouble posting using my phone. Thanks again, Dana :) :IBCOOL:
