Title: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: crabcreekhunter on October 31, 2014, 03:00:28 PM
My father has a quality late tag and can probably get him on this guy come tomorrow morning, he's shot many quality bucks, he's on the fence whether to try for this guy, looking for 190+ and this guy won't do it... I got some lube to ease the your crazy comments  8)

Dang Nice buck though!!

If you can get him on it tomorrow...why could you not find him on day 5 or even 10???  Maybe look for a bigger buck and then resort that dink later in the season.   :chuckle:

I don't have many quality bucks....so I would shoot that dear in the first minute of my hunt.
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: Boss .300 winmag on October 31, 2014, 03:06:02 PM
Thats a dink compared to a 190+, so I would shoot it.  :chuckle:

Looks like a great buck...maybe a weak back fork on the driver's side?? I wouldn't pass that buck unless I have already killed a bunch of big bucks..which I have not. I can understand passing though if he wants a 190. Can't shoot a 190 if you shoot the 170's.
Please keep us posted on the outcome of the hunt. Now you've got me hooked.

Either way I'm sure he'll be taking a pickup ride with how he was acting!

Yes he does have a weak back on that side jackelope, great buck for washington and your train of thought is similar to ours!

Crab...clearly....if you guys don't go for him.....we need to see a few more pics. Great buck regardless but like they said, can't shoot a monster if you shoot a big one!

The week back left fork appears to be a genetic trait in a certain area.    ;)

I'd smoke him all day long... But I haven't shot many quality bucks in this state either.. I hope you guys get the caliber of deer he is after though.

That's a great buck. He has to be close to 180.

Great buck. If I see a buck like that tomorrow with my Quality buck tag. Boom game over.

Well spent three days hunting and didn't chamber a round... Bucks are starting to rut and saw probably 12 bucks a day, 3 to mature bucks each day, not the biggest we saw but loved this guys backs..

That deer taste better than his deer tag, that's for sure. 190 few and far between anymore. Might as well hunt for bigfoot. Lol hehehehehe
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: Muleyslyr on November 04, 2014, 07:00:45 PM
I've drawn two late tags...who doesn't want a 190" deer going in. I don't care what unit it is, it's tough to continually pass up 170-180" deer with character. Hope too high of expectations don't get in the way of filling that quality tag. Good luck!
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: Jonathan_S on November 04, 2014, 07:23:50 PM
I would need someone to convince me not to take the 170" buck.

I get too worked up in the field.
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: jrebel on November 04, 2014, 07:43:28 PM
170 is huge.....no way I pass a 170" buck.  Of course I don't have a ton of big bucks on the wall.

What do you think this buck scored?  I ask cause I think most are like me....they don't have a great understanding of what a 170 buck really looks like.

147" Gross ?
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: Jonathan_S on November 04, 2014, 08:02:17 PM
I'd say 155" maybe

Great width, average mass, small forks.

Post by: Kazekurt on November 04, 2014, 08:20:51 PM
I'd say that buck is 150- 160.  Not a lot on the g3 but the G2's are long, mains and spread credit are decent and g4 is ok.  I would shoot it:-)
Title: Re: Are you a gambling man...
Post by: Kazekurt on November 04, 2014, 08:23:36 PM
On second look the g3 on the one side is better than I thought, probably in the 160's

Expectations are what keeps ya looking, he's got a room full of 160s into 180s from washington so something that scores well or trips his trigger, all in the eye of the beholder... Looking at this guy now... Hardest one to pass yet :-)

Yep boom that's a booner dink right there, seriously that's worth a quality tag to me.

Wonder how he has survived with those easily seen eyeguards? :dunno:

That's an awesome two point, but I would have been tagged out yesterday with that first buck.

That giant Forkey with eyeguards is cool just because I've never seen a Forkey that big!  I've seen a lot of them around 24 or 25 but that guy is way out there !  Cool thread, I appreciate you taking us along for the ride with the pics!

I measure bucks by pounds, not inches.  He sure looks to be over my 100 pound minimum from the pictures you had.

Yeah but people don't apply for those quality hunts just to kill meat bucks.

He's definitely over your minimum two times   :chuckle:

Put a stalk on a buck last night in the last hour, wider than the two point pictured! Running does made a mile stalk as fast as we could to get on him but gave us the slip but bumped a 170 class four point about 26 wide, beatiful buck but one year too young, hopefully he matures for someone else or gets taken this year! This guy stood around for a picture..

I'd say that buck is 150- 160.  Not a lot on the g3 but the G2's are long, mains and spread credit are decent and g4 is ok.  I would shoot it:-)

Bingo....it was 157 and change 27 7/8" wide.  It is hands down the biggest deer I have killed and is a beauty.  The mass is actually pretty nice with large narly eye guards.  I look at it and then think about a 170" buck....I would poo my pants at a chance to kill a 170" buck.

I think the 170+ inch bucks are few and far between.

170+ bucks are few are far between that's for sure, especially in this state a true trophy... Nice buck by the way...bump that 170 to 190 and I figure maybe 4:1000 (bucks)... My general season buck this year, excited to see what the next two weeks brings to my father!

That is a dandy buck....how wide and what does that score?  I only ask because we have thrown numbers around.  It really wouldn't matter to me cause it is a beauty and would die any day if I had a tag.

27.5 wide I believe and haven't thrown a tape on him but probably 165 to 170, good frame just bad fronts

I missed a 170 plus inch mule deer this year in Lincoln county, WA. :bash: But they are hard to come by. Haven't seen a deer that big in about 5 years before that opportunity. Mule deer don't get that big by being dumb, they are very smart animals. That was the biggest deer I've ever shot at by far. It was a real blessing to even see him, let alone get an opportunity. That's why we call it hunting, it isn't easy. Hope this guy gets his 190, but I sure wouldn't pass a good 160 and up. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!

Well most bucks have been bedded on the shady sides and looking into the sun doesn't offer great photo ops but this guy almost went home with my dad, crummy pic but had amazing fronts and decent backs not a huge frame

2014 deer season is in the books, first off is like to say what a great hunt camping on our property for 20 days grilling deer and elk brats over applewood, having the opportunity to be on this hunt with my father, and enjoying everything that is hunting. The trip started with seeing "snarly face" the day before the season and ended the season with him as well!! We hunted the area I saw him in hard, put the boots to work and countless hours glassing with no sightings, fast forward to the last day! Early afternoon and still have a tag, saw some decent 150 to 160 class bucks earlier but still holding out, wanted something that scored well or unique. Headed to our next glassing spot and come across a heavy antlered, wide buck! Get on him and see he's basically a big two!! My dad thinks it over a bit and decides, it's time and puts him down at 471. Very happy to harvest such a mature deer, teeth are at his gums and very skinny animal, would've been a tough winter.. Guessing 29 wide and 5.5 to 6 bove the but, Get him boned out and back to the truck and head out! We get almost off the mountain and what are the chances old snarly face is Flippin' us the bird at 100 yards. To be completely honest it hurt BAD! That's hunting and how it is, what a great trip saw some amazing animals and over 300 bucks. Kept the trigger finger fresh on song dogs and made many memories. Y'all seemed to like the big twos anyhow. Thanks for the hunt dad!

That buck is a supercool masher dink, I would have tagged him too!

Tell your dad good job on his buck, but more important he had a great hunt that you shared with him!  :llam:

Just one question was the buck still walking all these years because his eye guards are less than one inch?

It's good the quality tags let you take any buck,  because if I was in your shoes not seeing the right buck I would have been pissed not to be able to shoot him!

Tried to hold out but he needed to be taken out, lots of big twos running around as you saw Payne, nice to see the 5 point worked out. Would've been nice to get the cat but very smart! Nice meeting you as well, onto coyotes, bobcats, and birds now :-)
