I have been deer hunting up in the Yacolt burn Weyerhaeuser land and have seen a few grouse per day. I took my 4 year old son Archer a few times but no luck for deer. I want to take him back on those roads and focus on the Grouse. Is Weyerhaeuser land open for Grouse hunting as well or should I head to the National Forest? I do have a Discover pass. I'm an Arizona native, so I'm new to hunting here, especially for birds. Any tips for finding the birds? I was thinking of walking old closed roads. Looking to get my son a good successful experience. Thanks for any advice.

No reason why you can't hunt that same Weyerhaeuser land for grouse. I'd go right back to the same spots where you saw the grouse.

Weyco is not requiring permits in the burn so you should be fine. If you haven't hunted ruffed and blue grouse before do so. Where they are found is in the process of changing right now. Use a dog if you have one and be aware of your surroundings, no shortage of bear around.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like its time to pull out the 12 gauge.
