This video pretty much sums up the way my Archery Blues hunt went the entire season. I was within range of more herd bulls (and shooter satellites) than I could count, but luck was never on my side. Here is a 30 second video of one of the closest encounters:

With two 90 degree days left in the season, a trophy spike gave me far to long to think about using my tag as butt wipe, then, in a moment of weakness, my finger hit the trigger and it was over. The fact that the footage was good, his uniqueness, and being able to drive the vehicle to him were the deciding factors, but I still have a little regret as I was trailing a 350 bull when he came screaming in.

So you are the one....

Would you be willing to tell us where in the blues this was? Or pm me. I would be interested to know if this is the same bull I had seen.

That is the spike dreams are made of and you shot him with an any bull tag. You ruined some poor spike hunter's life! Good work and a clean kill and putting meat in the freezer

That is a monster spike! Congrats

I know it. Sorry guys! I may have also saved someones butt too though. I am not sure if this would be considered a legal spike. What do you think by the following pictures? It appears he bumped the main beam early in growth, forcing the antler to grow out the first brow tine. There is that bur though that is definitely over an inch.

Nice bull. I wouldn't want to show up at a check station with a spike tag on that guy.

I would put my spike tag on that no problem. Looks to be less than 4 inches from the base to me.

Hell of an eyeguard! Congrats.

Like another said, four inches from the base, but I too would be a little nervous running into a warden with a spike tag. We had a Warden (officer Meyers) that would love to write a ticket for something like this, and possibly beat you up like he did an old man just outside of Asotin. Luckily, he is gone now and the new Warden here seems to be a bit more rational.

Nice bull! Just to be clear there are no elk in the blues....
