Has any had any luck in the late season I know early is good but haven't heard much about the late
-
No elk there in the late season..
-
:yeah:
That means there are elk in there during the late season.
-
Haha I know there's elk there just wasn't sure on the succes rate for late season but I have been researching it and it seems like a decent amount of people tag out then.
-
Plenty of Elk in there during early season... I've spent 2 late seasons and have not seen a single Elk.
-
Hunted late season there last year not very much elk
-
I've never hunted it late season...
-
Me either but I figure its worth a shot

:yeah:
He's not joking or trying to sway you away from the area for himself, elk are and few between in the RR unit durring late season :bash: :bash: :bash:
I have many years hunting up there late season with no success. I have huntin it in 2 feet of snow, to no snow and the elk are only a hand full, really not worth the time, unless you know where the few elk are.
The welfare elk in the area head to the Bethel unit towards the feed station as soon as riffle season is over, weather there is snow or not.
The woods will be vertuly empty with hunters just as elk but there is a few that hunbt it to avoid the crowd in the Nile unit, im normally one of them :violent1:
If you do hunt it, stay low in elevation or hunt along the road to Conrad Meadows, but if you want half a chance, go to Nile.

Last year driving down the road by pine grass ridge, in the nastiest, windiest, rainest/snowiest conditions you've ever seen I glanced to my right and saw 2 cow elk no more then 20yds off the road. I slid to a stop in the slush, got out, drew back, and proceeded to miss a gimme shot. It would have just been to easy I guess :dunno: I don't seem to have that problem when I hike to hell and back :chuckle:
-
I was going to camp a conrad and hike around that area I know that there will be fewer elk in there then the nile but I like my chance with less people any of you guys going out this year

If the snow arives, there will be no elk up there, or other camps/hunters.
Since you insist on hunting there, concentrate on closer to the paved roads around the lake and even around clear lake and cabins in the area.

Oh come on, it was not that bad last year up there at all, a little slushy but not bad.
Were you guys in the Subaru chasing the elk along the lower road that goes around the lake :dunno:

I have looked into rimrock for the late season because I know the area but have come up with what the others have said. I would suggest the nile or cowiche but if you do hunt rimrock best of luck.
-
It really the only place I know to hunt elk that's why I insist on staying it its a little late to find a new spot and kind of a spur or the moment deal :bash: no smart on my end I do plan on looking into more areas next year when I got to time scout for early and late elk so any advice is appreciated

Seems to me like alot of, (dont come here). The Nile is REALLY hit or miss. Its not what it was 18 years ago. Last yr i was there for 10 days and bagged it after not seeing an elk for 3 or 4 days and until the last day (seen 15 or so in 1 group on the way back to camp) had only seen about 5 or 6. Another unit mentioned in this thread was RED HOT last winter.
-
Seems to me that it's a perfect time to scout and hunt a new area. Can't learn a new area if you don't go...
Cowich, Nile, Umtanum, Little Naches are all open as well as RR.

I wish I was hunting late season for elk. Went with the rifle this year due to work and struck out.
Pete, PM me where you are going to be so I can send our buddy by to say hi :hello:

Last year it took all of 7 days to finally see elk in the Nile in the late hunt. Everybody we talked to said the same.
But 2 years ago on Tday morning me and my buddy had 200 or so all around us. Our biggest problem was which ones to shoot.

Haha subaru? No definatly not me! I was in my 06 f150. And the day I was up there was that bad, soaked head to toe. Could hardly get anywhere in a foot of slush.

Even slid off the road in to the ditch by lost lake, put it in 4 low and drove righ tout of it :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w:
I cut the fresh tracks in the snow and slush up around Pinegrass Thanksgiving weekend. Had the place all to my self, not even elk to share the holiday wekend with :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
