Title: Blacktail hunter wanting to head east?
Post by: mmullins on November 11, 2014, 10:19:38 AM
I have only hunted blacktail here on the west side. I was lucky enough to take a little 2 point this year in Pe Ell north permit area. I had a good time but I am ready to head east. My daughter is 6 and she is showing a lot of interest in hunting but blacktail hunting and a 6 years olds patients don't really go well together. We were only seeing 3 to 5 deer a day and the 2 point I shot was only the second buck I saw in the 5 days hunting season started. I am not looking for any honey holes, just some good advice on where to start researching so I can start getting a good plan together. I have done two turkey trips up in NE Washington near kettle falls, but the lack of public land was disappointing to me. The areas that I was thinking of would be around Leavenworth or Winthrop. I like the fact that its a national forest so I wont have to worry about weather I am in a legal area to hunt. The next thing I like about the area is that its not terribly far away. Any advice would be a great help. Ideally wouldn't mind going over there during turkey season and do some spring scouting, then a couple weekend camping trips in the summer to get some good scouting in. It would be cool to go somewhere that you get too see a lot of deer and even a lot of bucks. Figured if I have to spend $250 to hunt Weyerhaeuser land I should just put that in the gas tank and do something I've been wanting to do for a long time.
