I just don't think a "wolf derby" is worth giving enviro groups such a great fundraising tool...its perfectly legal for folks to hunt wolves and coyotes...go do it...drop the derby advertisements and go enjoy the outdoors. Call it a predator hunting and youth outdoors clinic...or anything really, just leave the "wolf" and "derby" part unwritten :bash:

Unless their population in Idaho is much larger than I imagine, It just seems like too much pressure in such a small area. It would be more efficient if everyone just stayed home and hunted their home turf.

In 4 or 5 years when the wolf population is so out of control, like it was in Idaho 3 years ago and really still is a huge problem. You will have a different view, and want to take what ever measures needed. An area I have hunted since a little kid east of Sun Valley. In early archery you would 50-75 deer with 20 bucks every day. 2 years ago 7 days of hunting saw 6 deer and 1 buck. This is 100 % wolf predation. Where the deer winter in the Little Wood they are getting slaughtered . Did you know there are documented packs as large as 12 wolves. You will eventually see that here

I don't hate Wolves by any means, but the contract we signed with the Feds has set this State up for failure. By the time we are able to hunt Wolves in Wa, it will be too late in many regions, just like many of Idaho's greatest hunting regions.

I'm all for effective wolf control measures...this derby is not one of them. It's completely ineffective at wolf removal and all it does is stir up emotions from the enviros and helps their fundraising. It would not surprise me if some nefarious enviro group was behind this whole publicity stunt.

We have signed no contract with the feds...not sure what you are suggesting with that comment.

I'm done with tip toeing around anti's or liberals, say how it is and f'em if they don't like it. The money will always pour in when it comes to fighting hunting and gun control in favor of the anti's, nothing we can do about it. I'm not going to live the rest of my life worrying what any of those pro wolf anti gun liberals think. The residents of Idaho have learned, they don't give two chits about the restrictions that were placed on wolf hunting, they just want them dead! God bless em!

What I was referring to ( perhaps wrong wordage ) is the deal where it states the regions and the amount of documented breeding pairs per region before there is any chance of wolf control. Then we will have to fight in court ( just like Idaho ) to get a hunting season in place. By the time this state will be able to have a wolf season, there will be herds that will be so decimated. For instance, the Oak Creek, Joe Watt and Robinson feeding stations. They are a smorgasbord for the wolves. Any where deer and elk winter, especially at feeding stations. When the wolves really start getting a hold and start splitting, the growth becomes exponential.

Post by: idahohuntr on November 14, 2014, 01:39:11 PM: Its complex, but yes, in areas where wolf predation is limiting ungulates I would not count on much wolf management/lethal control to occur in this state anytime soon. However, my experience and observations lead me to believe that wolves will not impact all areas of the state equally and that probably a majority of deer and elk herds in the state will not be limited by wolf predation.

HOWEVER want to get the west side lib's fired up on controlling the wolves???? ake them deal with them and I don't give a rats ass what it takes, even if it means private citizens trapping them and transporting them. Those A holes on the west side won't change their way of thinking unless they are faced with the problem, then they'll be screaming ole billy hell to get them under control. Until the wolves get into a higher human populated area than the east side the wolf lovers and WDFW isn't going to do a damned thing. Drop a pair in the Olympic National Park and another pair in the Mt Rainier National Park
