Title: Anybody use those scrape drippers?
Post by: HornHoarder on November 13, 2014, 09:10:36 PM
Just curious of how effective they are. I just set one up near one of my stands, made a mock scrape, and hung a camera on it. I'll check it in a week or two. It's supposed to drip for 2-3 weeks.

I just got back from a hunt up north for whitetails. I hung a dripper on Oct 25th. Got there to hunt last thurs and the deer were hitting it good. Watched two small bucks go to it while I was in my stand on fri and sat. They pawed and licked the licking branch and then went over to another "real" scrape that they started after I was up there and set mine up. The larger bucks aren't quite rutting yet.
That being said, I've used these for 6 yrs now and this was the first time I saw that much activity on them. Hope this helps.

I have them on a few cameras right now and am anxious to see what results they produce.

I have not had any luck with them.  Now I just use pre-orbital gland lure on a licking branch. I start it early Oct and normally a buck makes it into a scrape for me

Used one a few years ago.  I didn't notice a difference

Making a mock scrape with the preorbital scent On overhead branch seem more effective. I tried the dripping systems quite a bit in early 90's and did not notice an increase in scrape usage.

I think finding a good travel area near doe bedding and feeding areas, saddles,  edges of clear cuts , swamps and making mock scrapes with an overhead branch seems to work better. Wear knee high rubber boots, latex rubber gloves and watch your scent control when making scrapes. Oh and watch the wind direction too when making scrapes. Do not want to educate the bucks

My hunting partner hung one right by his trail cam and had a nice 4 pt Blacktail on it. His wife has a bow tag, so I guess we'll see here soon if it makes the buck come back again.
