I wasn't sure where to post this, but I am hunting the weekend of thanksgiving, and I wanted to try a gopro on my gun. Has anyone hunted with a gopro on their rifle yet? What are you thoughts? Did you face it out or towards you? Thanks guys?

Just don't try to get in the picture when you shoot.
-
Would that fall into the "electronic devices" category in the regs?
And yeah, what Bob said :chuckle:

Direction depends on whether you want the kill shot or your face when you miss.... :chuckle: :chuckle:
Where in the regs Wood? As far as I know, shotguns and rifles are fine for a camera, just no laser projecting onto an animal.

I am not sure it is in there. One of those foggy memory things. I guess I have some more reading to do. :chuckle: If it is ok, I am gonna try it, would be cool. But no selfies. :chuckle:

There is no restriction against of use of one of a rifle. It would not be legal on archery equipment.

Maybe that's where I got it from, seems like I remember some hub bub over it.

I tried with a different brand camera, it flops over when you fire. Go Pro does make a gun mount that improves stability but standard mount will leave you disappointed.

Hilarious! Always enjoy your wit.

By the letter of the law you are correct.
b It is unlawful to have any electrical equipment or electric device(s) except for illuminated nocks, attached to the bow or arrow while hunting
However, by the spirit of the law I think it is absolute BS if a GW made an issue of it. I would liken it to gluing a digital watch to your bow. It is not there to assist in the hunt. The watch would just be a thing of convenience. The camera would be there as a means of recording the experience.
Just my :twocents:
As to attaching a camera to your rifle, I would highly recommend getting the correct mounting device. GoPros are expensive pieces of technology and I wouldn't risk damaging it without taking the precaution of using the manufacturers bracket to attach it.
Good luck on your hunt. Hope you have an extra reason to be Thankful this year.

Hope your shot is under 30 yards cause much farther it will look like a spec on the screen to not even visible

That's the problem I see with GoPros, when I have my point and shoot on my shotgun, I keep it zoomed in a bit so it doesn't look like I am just shooting at clouds. :chuckle:

could go with a hat/head mounted cam. Distance is issue with rifle use. Watching SOLO hunters TV, they use a real camera/tripod for distance shots and GP for the close in shots (walking, setting up shot, talking ect...)
I have personally used GP on motorcycle racing and you have to be CLOSE to get a picture. Unless your shot is within 30 yrds, you are probably wasting the effort.

Honestly, nothing looks more ridiculously staged when you see a camera mounted on a rifle or shotgun videoing the shooter.
That is nothing but "Facebook Narcissism" at its best,
LOL
