I'm not sure if any of you care but you can check you bear and deer ages if you've ever sent in a successful tooth sample. If there are no results its because the tooth was insufficient for results.
I was sort of curious what the average ages for you seasoned bear hunters were.
I don't have results of the bears I've shot unfortunately. I'm still waiting on this years bear.

I was always told by others that there is no feedback on tooth samples you send in but when I stopped by fish and wildlife so they could remove the teeth from my Palouse late season buck they informed me that that is incorrect. Maybe you already knew this but I figured I'd share just in case

Somewhere I still have most of the cards they used to send out, (they went electronic many years ago) and I think the average was about 5.5 years over 16 bears. Mostly due to one at 23.5 and one at 14.5

I'm Not sure how accurate they are for bear. One of the ones I sent in said it was a 5 year old female. But it was a male bear that I shot.
They do have an additional alph-numeric category that gives a plus or minus in years but I the sex of the bear is determined by the person submitting the tooth, unless the analyst made a mistake.
Years later I was talking about my 23.5 year old bear to a bio and he said that he remembered it and that it could have plus or minus of 5 years.

What were the size of those bears? That's incredible. 23.5? That's an old warrior right there.
About 250 live weight. I did not square or measure it but the skull is about 19 inches or so. It was a short stocky bear that appeared to be in great health except for it's teeth.

I would have to look but I think my largest bear was 11 year old spring bear. It weighed 385 gutted and scored 20 even.
