Title: Margaret Antlerless Tag Holders?
Post by: SI Eagle on November 20, 2014, 08:41:33 AM
I saw the Toutle thread and it sounds like pretty tough going. How is it going in the Margaret?

SI, what is your interest in the Margaret hunts?  Do you have a tag in their or are you just looking to see how bad it has really gotten in the unit?  I can tell you first hand how disappointing that unit is now and would not be surprised to see it and the Toutle go general soon.

3 days....10+ miles hiked .... Been in numerous stands timber and draws. Only come across 4 elk, 2 bulls on the opener and 2 dead cows today, died from hoof rot in the last couple months . This place is in serious trouble.

Wow, that is discouraging.  I am heading there within the next day or so with a cow tag.  Any suggestions as to best access points?

I do have Weyerhaeuser access, but was considering accessing from the public land along the east end of the unit.

Day 4 also failed to yield a "live" elk. I did however find 2 more carcasses that fell to hoof rot. I'm sure there are elk there, I saw small amounts of fresh sign. 4 days and I've seen more dead then live elk.... I'm out. Came home today, this unit is toast. Almost forgot, in 4 days I never heard a single shot...
