Title: Looking for Elk hunting property for late archery for disabled Veteran
Post by: BoArcher on November 22, 2014, 08:50:18 PM
I'm a disabled Army Veteran with ALS (Lou Gehrig's) trying to find accessible property to Archery hunt Elk during the 2014 late archery season. I'm still able to walk with to out much difficulty but am unable to carry out an animal very far depending on terrain. We are planning on hunting the Winston Creek area in December but Elk reports for that area are not looking good. This may be my last year that I'm physically able to hunt and I'm hoping that someone out there has or knows of property that I could hunt on with a reasonable chance for success. I have been hunting for many years and will respect your property and rules. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding my hunting abilities. Thank you so much in advance!

Don't give up on Winston if you don't get something easier. The stuff below Vanson Peak and all along fs 2600 is good for bow hunting and sees regular traffic of animals. It's a long drive in through Weyerhauser as Port Blakely won't let you drive through their piece below it.

BoArcher, if I'm not mistaken, you may able to access some pretty deep diving gated NF roads, depending on your disability percentage.  Something to check out for sure.  I haven't done all the research, but I think you can even take somebody with you to help pack the animal out.
